By far the best secret hunting ground I've accidently discovered is slightly southwest of the Union Pacific Campground, on the other side of Thieves landing.

Beaver Location

The bottom area marked in red is an excellent area.

Simply cross the small bridge in Thieves landing headed towards the Great Plains and set your waypoint to the campgrounds. Once there head for the river but dont actually go to the river. Look for 3 small grassy knolls (small hills) one will have a large oak tree with a Humming Bird Sage plant. Directly behind it is a easter egg. A treasure chest that you can always loot sits in front of the tree. The campgrounds should ALWAYS remain less than 200 yards in plain sight, slightly Northeast of your location. Stay mounted on your horse and survery the entire surrounding area. The river should ALWAYS remain behind you and the train bridge at or about the 11/12/1 oclock position for optimal viewing. Happy hunting.

*Note

I just want to say that if you want to make money hunting, you should just hunt birds. And you can do that anywhere. A hawk feather is $6 and $9 with high honor. It takes only a few minutes to get 50 hawk feathers in Hennigan's Stead. This will bring you between $300-$450 a day. Plus the money you can make from bucks and deer running around. Bucks will actually make you more money than elk.

This only applies for daylight hours.

There are wolves in that area but from the knoll using a Winchester Rifle you can take them out from a good distance and run the rest off until they respawn again which should give you plenty of time to skin the dead wolves.

In one sitting from that location (about 30 minutes) I managed to kill:

1) 3 Bald Eagles

2) 7 Wolves

3) 2 Large Elks

4) 1 Wild Boar

5) and 2 Beaver

There are also wild horses in that area but always stay on top of the knoll to clear any wolves before skinning any animals. Its an excellent vantage point.

*Edited update

I wanted to make sure this spot was legit, so I went back to Thieves Landing and saved and went back out early the next morning and bagged the following critters with ease.

1) 2 Bald Eagles

2) 2 Bighorn Sheep

3) 1 Large Elk

4) 3 Beaver

5) 4 Wolves

1) Vulture

1) Wild Boar

I probably would had killed and skinned more but I only stayed half a day after getting the remaining Beaver pelts I needed to complete the Daedulus and Son mission.

As far as I have noticed there seems to be no Cougar or Bear to be on guard from during the daylight hours and the small hills provide a great bluff/blind to hunt and scatter predators away as you skin your prey.

In my opinion its the best hunting spot in the game because you dont have to remain so guarded with the exception of wolves.
