@Wagwan piffting23 I don't usually like to speculate since as you've said it causes people to make far-fetched attachments, but I've done a bit of reading up and TB definitely fits: It would seem that the most common initial survival time for TB before treatment was discovered was around 6 months, though it tended to vary case to case. However there have also been numerous reported cases of individuals surviving for several years untreated, and even going into remission for prolonged periods of time. If Abigail was in the early stages of the disease in 1911, it wouldn't be a stretch to think she could have lasted 3 years. Most forms of cancer however would have taken her sooner. As for Jack never contracting the disease, it's not unheard of for people living in the same home as an infected person to avoid getting sick, and lets not forget the time setting and place being when TB was not uncommon, and therefore people were more suspicious of the symptoms. It's very possible Abigail's illness was caught early and she and Jack were careful about it. But I suppose we will never know.
