Save John, because then Arthur’s sacrifice wouldn’t be so much in vain. John could live with Abigail and Jack in a stable, family life, which is all they ever wanted. That’s why I think John’s death is sadder, because apart from the betrayal element, he also lost what he’d tried so hard for.

I’m not entirely sure what Arthur would’ve done if he had survived. Maybe live with the Marston family? Whatever the case, I think he has less of a future than John.

I agree with the previous reply. Arthur was the most wanted gang member along with Dutch. He would've been caught and arrested soon anyway. Also, I don't think he would've stayed with John after saving him as it would increase the Marston family's chances of being arrested by the law too.

John, on the other hand, had a family, and he finally got the chance to live with his wife and son after capturing his old friends and leaving the life of crime and violence once and for all. John's death not only impacted Jack's future but also impacted Abigail's fate as she died too, basically ruining the entire family.

So I'd definitely save John too.

^ there's no indication whatsoever as to what caused Abigail's death. They never once have specified or even hinted at what killed her. I've seen people theorize that she contracted TB from Arthur towards the end of his life, which is possible considering she spent a good amount of time around Arthur during the most infectious periods of the disease

True, there’s no established reason for it, but it’s quite possible that John’s death could’ve caused it in some way. Bereavement can weaken the immune system and cause ill health generally, plus they may have lost out financially by struggling to take care of the ranch as a two. It can’t have been an easy time for Abigail (or Jack). Even if Abigail’s death was something unrelated, there’s no denying that John’s death would’ve massively lowered her quality of life, hence my opinion that John’s death overall had more negative impacts than Arthur’s.

Im going to have to say John's mainly for the fact that it was a complete surprise and actually saddening. There were no online forums or mass media talk about it, so the ending was well hidden UNLESS you looked it up. John did everything the Bureau asked and was still betrayed. Arthur gave his life. John had his taken.

Clicked John at first but changed my mind after some thought. Even though I like John more I’d definitely save Arthur. Arthur’s death was involuntary and he was gonna run away with Mary. John sacrificed himself so his family would have to run from the government. So if I save John, then that dooms they whole Marston family to a terrible life and Mary would live the rest of her life mourning Arthur. If I save Arthur then he gets to be with Mary and Johns sacrifice would mean Abigail could die peacefully in the home her husband built, and Jack has a home for the rest of his life.
