There's a strange plot hole I found recently with the first game.
In Political Realities in Armadillo, Johnson states that he can't go after Bill because "he's outside my jurisdiction, he's in the next county (Rio Bravo)".
Now admittedly, I don't know too much about how U.S Marshals operate. However, I know for fact that they have at least legal jurisdiction over their entire state, not just one county.
In the final newspaper, he is specifically called "the town marshal". Town marshals only have jurisdiction within the community they're appointed at, so that would make sense with Johnson's above line. The logic being, if Johnson is a town marshal, his jurisdiction ends at the border of Armadillo.
However, in virtually every mission he's in, he's been outside Armadillo.
Him and John chase Walton out of Armadillo and into the Pleasance House
Him, John, and his deputies head to Pike's Basin to fight bandits
They head up to Ridgewood Farm to investigate the murders
They up to Tumbleweed to save Bonnie
They head to Fort Mercer to find Bill
All of this would make sense if Johnson was a federal marshal. However, the newspaper and Rio Bravo being "outside his jurisdiction" make it clear that he's a town marshal.
