I think that by the time jack is an adult the town will either be a ghost town or maybe somebody will come nd convince them that there is a darkness again.

Like the other posts have said, it would have probably been abandoned around 1914.

Could have been abandoned due to the poison in the mine (don't know what it was - could be iron but I have a feeling it was lead and/or arsenic) and the health problems it caused for the inhabitants, or it could have grown more if Roanoke Fuel Company - or a rival mining company - decided to expand the mine further and located another water source.

I suppose I always had the hopeful (and most likely false) idea that foiling the mining companies plans during the stranger mission somehow leads to a future in which mining is stopped due to them not wanting to be liable for the butchers creek illness and then their water supply naturally recovers.
