I think the stress of running a gang at the brenk of collapse and also the suspension of any of them could be plotting against him could have lead him down the path of become a delusional psychopath we see in RDR 1 as well as losing a lot of his gang members including his best friend and two people he saw as his sons
I hear a lot of people say he changed towards the end of RDR2 but that just doesn’t sit right with me. We all know about the horrible way he killed Heidi McCourt during the Blackwater job, which went against the gang’s “killing in cold blood” code. He was breaking his own rules from the beginning.
I posted this once, as a reply to someone, and I will again:

Dutch always was a bad man. Like John said, he got found out for what he truly was. Early in the beginning there were several instances where he blamed Arthur for everything. It was subtle and un-noticable in the first walkthrough, but thanks to some YT videos, it was very noticable in the second. He blames him for not being at the Blackwater job and for the false explosion in the Cornwall train robbery. But contrary to not noticing in the first walkthrough, I noticed in Chapter III: Clemens Cove in the mission The New South when Hosea, Arthur, and Dutch get back from fishing, Dutch says "I think I-" and then catches himself and says "WE are going to be ok." This threw me off and I was a little confused and I remember the first thing I said was "he said I, why'd he say I?" Also he makes sure he's safe before everyone else. A leader is supposed to make sure the gang is safe before himself.
I believe that Dutch was an honest man to his gang but started to become more delusional to his own propaganda as he got older.
He slowly started to become a dictator more than a leader, he started to become greedy.
Now who is this Douche fella? That anarchist who hung out with them indians in Fallen Creek? I doubt someone like that could ever be a good man, robbing banks and such. Robbing us old folk of our hard-earned moneh! Gicov was right...
What do you think?
