I decided to share my thoughts on the future of the Red Dead series, without touching on such one-sided denouements as Redemption 3, because personally I'm already tired of it all. Given Rockstar's current apathetic tendencies, I'm not very sure that anything positive will come out, but this is just my not very stable opinion about the preferred future of the series.
1) Red Dead Revolver Remake. Considering how mainstream it is to remake not very old products, and the fact that Rockstar also fell for it, a remake of the ancestor of the series sounds quite interesting, at least from the point of view of the developers themselves. I assume that this will not be a remake in the typical sense, but a real rethinking and reflashing of the original story, bringing something really new and moving to the Redemption universe, where the Revolver story has an ambiguous status on the verge of actual events and legends. In addition, the developers in such a situation will have a lot of creative freedom without taking the original game to the detriment. Such a scenario is certainly attractive, but, I'm afraid, unlikely.
2) A new story within the current Redemption universe, in a different consumption format. An even less likely version of events, although for me it is very interesting from the point of view of history. Although there have been doubts about the continuation of the story since the days of RDR, RDR2 really closed many points and ideologically completed the central story of John. But no one really canceled the release of additional material that would reveal some details in the main story. For me, perhaps the most interesting, albeit a little knock-out option, is to tell about the period between 1899-1907 years. I would be happy with the option to show John's life at this time, against the background of another story to which John himself had an indirect relationship. Such an option would be suitable for a conditional mini-series, but Rockstar apparently does not particularly like to go into this direction. Also can't rule out others, but just indirect ways to provide slightly different stories, nut I don’t find particularly relevant options, because it’s too late to release the same DLCs for RDR2.
3) New saga. The most obvious and righteous option, in which the publisher is not particularly interested, because it is very risky.
4) Mobile Red Dead. The saddest, but most likely option. With the acquisition of Zynga and CEO Take-Two talking about moving major franchises to mobile platforms, Red Dead is the first choice for the role. And the whole point is the existence of Red Dead Redemption: Gunslingers, a closed web-game on Facebook that can be taken as a basis for a future mobile service game by the Red Dead franchise.
