My thoughts personally are that he is definitely my favorite character in the series and probably in gaming aside from the green boi himself Master Chief. And I understand why a lot of people like John too I played the first RDR when it came out and he was one of my favorites too. However when RDR2 came out I was just as exited as the rest of you to see John's backstory. I initially disliked Arthur due to the slow start to the game. However as it progressed his character arc and story is unmatched. He is quite possibly the best written character in all of gaming and in the entire entertainment industry. His journey feels far more redeeming putting the redemption in Red Dead Redemption. Now one of the main problems that I had with the story of RDR1 was how John's journey didn't feel all too redeeming until the very end. He had good intentions, to get his family back but like Alan Grant said in Jurassic Park "Some of the worst acts can be done with good intentions" John does whatever is necessary to get his family back. Arthur who is a dying man is compelled to do the right thing knowing his time has come to an end. He does far more honorable acts and deeds to try and make himself a good person. And I know it all depends on the players choices but what is your option on him?
