Wow, people feeling bad for the guy who caught runaway slaves for a living, and laughed at their misery. That's certainly... an opinion.
It's true--he couldn't change with the times. And you know whose fault that was? His. Nothing was stopping him from going out and getting a new job. But he didn't want to be a shit-shoveling farmhand or a ditch-digger or some other menial job. He wanted something that gave him prestige. Well, since his "prestige" and high standing in the community had been built on the suffering of others, he can go f*** himself.
