Clicked John at first but changed my mind after some thought. Even though I like John more I’d definitely save Arthur. Arthur’s death was involuntary and he was gonna run away with Mary. John sacrificed himself so his family would have to run from the government. So if I save John, then that dooms they whole Marston family to a terrible life and Mary would live the rest of her life mourning Arthur. If I save Arthur then he gets to be with Mary and Johns sacrifice would mean Abigail could die peacefully in the home her husband built, and Jack has a home for the rest of his life.
Arthur is too generic and definitely too overpowered for me. Man gets knocked out, shot in the side with a revolver, poin black in the shoulder with a repeater/rifle, is hung upside down for possibly hours without food, gets beaten with the handle of a revolver, cuts himself loose, cauterize the wound, then after all of that, manages to kill a man with his bare hands and escape on horse back. John was a lot more believable, gets shot once in the side is out for almost a week. It’s not even bias too since, before I played rdr2 the last time I played the first game was 2011 and even then I couldn’t remember the story. Only after replaying it after finishing 2 did I realize (IMO) how much of a better character John is. He doesn’t just magically turn into some saint, he’s on a mission and he’ll help/kill whoever he needs to in order to save his family. Also Rockstar tries way too hard to get players to like Arthur, they give him better deadeye than RDR1 John, they give him a much bigger role in the gang, they make John a deadbeat dad, they make him more muscular, they make everyone like him more than John. Arthur really feels like a Mary-Sue self insert fanfiction character while John is more believable. Again all of this is just my opinion, like who you like, rdr2 is still a pretty good game and deserves a lot of the praise it gets.
John: definitely
Arthur: definitely
Charles: Probably
Sadie: Probably not
Dutch: definitely
Javier: probably not
Bill: probably not
Lenny: definitely not
Hosea: maybe
Sean: probably not
Kieran: definitely not
Uncle: would beat Micah with his cold, lumbago infected, hands
I’ve been killed more times by my horse bucking me off than any other creature in rdr2
Accidentally chose John (who is my second choice) but I would totally bring Dutch if he’s not gonna betray me. Man is the best shot in the series and a pretty smooth talker too. As long as Dutch isn’t crazy he’d get you out of most predicaments.
People really chose Sadie over the Brimstone QuickDraw champion himself
Arthur’s default outfit is kinda generic imo
To me the graphics actually hold up really well close up but everything looks kinda pixelated far away
Rockstar kinda messed up Javier’s character in my opinion. They made him too like able when it was pretty obvious they were writing him to be a slimy a*hole in the first. I know a lot could happen in 12 years but Javier was so nice to John and Arthur in every chapter then just betrays is them at the end of 2, same with Bill. They shouldn’t have changed his character so much, to the point where he’s basically unrecognizable.
I like to think John wins this round by a long shot but neither ever comes close to Dutch. In RDR1 he perfectly shoots Johns binoculars from like 100+ feet away with a pistol. It’s also obvious (IMO) that he was aiming for the binoculars and not trying to kill John, as (iirc) besides for when he’s on the machine gun in his last mission, you never see him try to shoot at John with the outright intent to kill. Sorry for not really staying on topic but I feel like more people need to know just how much of a unit Dutch is.
