This took many takes but I think I did well enough at getting a decent shot.
@LoreEnthusiast I believe John was actually underweight when I took this picture, though that would have been interesting to see if weight would make him look more similar.

That was actually one of my guesses for what RDR2 was going to be called. Revolver, Redemption, it was evident by that point that Rockstar was going with R-words for the titles. So I was thinking Revenge, Revolution, any other words that felt like they could be used for a western. But ultimately we just got Redemption II. Maybe the next installment will use a different word.
In addition to what @Equivalent-Ambition said, there’s a small group of tasks you can do at the Appleseed Timber Company and the Central Union Railroad Camp (you can look them up for more information). As for actual side missions, there’s also the ones for the Downes family in Annesburg, as well as Charlotte Balfour north of there. I believe there are a few smaller events that only occur as Arthur, which mainly revolve around houses being built over time to make the game world feel more alive and evolving, but they’re very minor. There’s also the lady accepting donations close to the tailor in Saint Denis, though I’m not sure if the event is available after Chapter 4. Other than that, I can’t think of any other things off the top of my head that are exclusive to Arthur. Just remember to also do the money lending missions if you hadn’t already, and you should be fine.
Having the duel holsters like Dutch wouldn’t even be possible with the satchel on, unless you want very immersion-breaking clipping. If in some ideal world Rockstar decides to let us move/remove the offhand holster, they’d have to also include an option to remove the satchel. Like Petkoholic said, this would be a bit unrealistic. But then again, if Rockstar were to ever do this, maybe they could allow removable satchels at the cost of having less storage space. I personally would be in favor of this because as it stands, the amount of stuff you’re able to carry around at once is already very unrealistic.
@Wagwan piffting23 Blackwater Ledger, Issue No. 63 - Who Are The Scarlett Meadows Bandits? - “It was then that lawmen, having been tipped off to to the robbery, arrived on the scene and confronted the outlaws.”
Despite what Milton said about picking Micah up after Guarma, it’s heavily implied throughout the game that he was a rat the whole time. From the beginning, we’re meant to question whether the Blackwater job was a trap, and Rockstar wouldn’t have planted that seed for no reason. Additionally, Dutch’s wanted poster can be found at Micah’s camp in Chapter 2. Nobody carries around a wanted poster without the intention of collecting a bounty. Meanwhile throughout the entire game, Micah is constantly mentioning the Blackwater money and how they should go back for it, knowing full well that they’d be captured if they tried. It sounds a whole lot like he’s simply trying to lead them back into a trap and collect on Dutch’s capture, or at least strike a deal for aiding in the capture.
Further evidence of Micah’s intentions are implied in a newspaper article after the train heist towards the end of Chapter 2. The law managed to make it there peculiarly quickly, and the gang even questions whether someone talked. Sure enough, the newspaper article about the heist states that lawmen were tipped off beforehand. Nobody else knew about this heist besides a few members of the gang, so that article proves there was a rat from the beginning. Given what’s implied about Micah’s intentions (the wanted poster, the insistence on going back to Blackwater, the fact that he did turn out to be the rat), he’s the most probable one who tipped off the law (and remember, Molly only began acting hostile to Dutch in Chapter 3, so it’s very doubtful she was a rat as early as Chapter 2, if ever).
A final point, and one that’s just conjecture, is perhaps the most interesting. During the heist of the Lemoyne National Bank, every member of the gang is dressed in dark clothing with the exception of Micah, who’s in a full white suit. Compared to everyone else, he stands out greatly, surely enough to stand out in the event of a shootout with the Pinkertons. It’s been theorized that this was done on purpose, and Micah had been talking with the Pinkertons. When the shootout starts, the Pinkertons would be able to identify their inside man because of his starkly contrasted outfit. The Lemoyne bank robbery, just like the Blackwater heist, involved Pinkertons ambushing the gang suspiciously quickly, and once again Micah is the odd one out.
The article about the train heist confirms the gang had a rat from the very beginning. The wanted poster, the white suit, the insistence on going back to Blackwater, all very missable details that make Micah look very suspicious throughout the game. Perhaps we’ll never know the truth for certain, but considering the evidence, it’s very likely Micah was a rat the whole time.
It’s possible, however there’s nothing specifically pointing to it. We do see several times when Bill mentions fighting Natives, and it’s very evident that it had some sort of psychological effect on him. However he never mentions Wounded Knee in particular, or any particular confrontation for that matter. There are countless skirmishes that took place between the army and the Indians during and around the 1880s, Wounded Knee is just as possible as any others. Additionally, if it was a battle as famous as that, I think it would have been alluded to at some point in the game. Dutch mentions how his father “died in a field in Pennsylvania” fighting the Confederates, which is meant to allude to Gettysburg. Bill never mentions a specific time he “massacred a bunch of Lakota up in South Dakota” (or something to that effect). If he was a part of something famous like Wounded Knee, I think Rockstar would have made it a bit more apparent like that.
That’s just how they met. Sean was just some common thief who would go around robbing people, he wasn’t part of any gang. He didn’t know who Dutch was so he tried to rob him and failed. Dutch liked him though and took him in. Same as how Bill joined the gang.
I think what people are afraid about is the uncertainty going forward, the fact that we don’t know what impact it will have. He was just one man, and Rockstar has so many other talented minds who if not are already great writers, have no doubt learned from the greats what it takes to make a good game. Still, it can’t be denied how integral he’s been to the company. And with Benzies already gone, and now Dan leaving, people are just afraid this is the start of something bigger and soon we might be seeing Sam and Lazlow and who knows who else leaving. If this were any other time in the history of gaming, I think people would be less worried. But looking at changes going on in the industry, and many franchises and studios seemingly selling out in favor of lower-quality work that can be exploited with microtransactions, it’s left people pretty shaken. Nobody wants to see people like him leave, because that changing of the guard could mean bad things in the industry’s current climate. A lot of companies these days don’t want these masterful writers anymore, they’d prefer a yes-man who will focus on cheap content that can make a quick buck.
It could just be that it’s just Dan leaving and the rest of Rockstar will live up to his legacy. And it could also be the beginning of a downward decline for the company. Nobody knows. I really hope you’re right, and Rockstar will stay the masters that they are. There are still a lot of people in that company who truly care about the games they make and the stories they want to tell. They’ve always put that first, and profits second, and in doing so they’ve managed to still make more money than the companies that do put profits first. Hopefully they stick with that mindset. We won’t truly know for years, at least until they release a new game and we see if quality has decreased since Dan’s departure. But I do have faith in Rockstar, more than any company, that they’ll still be just as great and dedicated as they were with Dan.
The YouTuber cad5150 has that fight in a recent poll of his, so regardless of whether it wins for next upload, he’ll definitely be uploading it sometime soon I think. Just keep watch on the channel for now, and there are tons of other good npc fights he’s uploaded to watch in the meantime.
It’s just a regular npc. The Strange Man has different attire (black jacket as opposed to a black coat, grey vest as opposed to a red vest, different kind of top hat, etc). I’m sure if one were to look in the game files, this would be “Generic Saint Denis Gentleman #54” or something along those lines. Red Dead definitely has a lot of very hidden references, but generally speaking, it’s best not to overthink most npc’s we come across.
All story mode content originally exclusive to PC has been on all consoles now since January 21st. The bigger issue is story mode versus Online, regardless of platform. I’d at least appreciate it if they moved some of those ponchos to the story mode. It’s unfortunate seeing Red Dead going the same way as GTA when it comes to all of that.
@Petkoholic Here are two of the photos I took yesterday that happen to have the sheriff in them. You’ll have to zoom in a bit, but it’s the exact same outfit, face, hat, everything.
You’ve actually caught onto something that’s in the game. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but on some trees across the map, there will be dreamcatchers hanging from them. These are actually collectibles of some sort. There are 20 locations across the map, and upon finding them all, it’ll direct you to the cave behind the waterfall at Elysian Pool, where a unique item will be there in that spot (it’s a bison by the way, not a cow). I don’t want to spoil any other details, but there are articles on the wiki you can read about it, you’ll just have to type in “dreamcatchers” and I’m sure they’ll come up. But you are indeed correct, that hole in the cave wall is there for a reason.
I’m not even kidding, I’ve been considering making a post asking this exact question. It feels like years ago when I first saw that piece of trivia about Dutch, and I’ve gone on several little expeditions searching for this supposed grave. Playing as Jack, and using cheats in order to get to the area Dutch fell to, I’ve turned over every inch of that region around Cochinay and Nekoti Rock, and I have not found anything even remotely close to a grave. I have also tried this in Undead Nightmare with identical results. Not even anything as simple as a small mound where a body might be under. I don’t know who started the rumor originally, or how it ended up on several pages of the Red Dead wiki, but in all of my extensive investigations I have not found the slightest hint of Dutch’s supposed grave.
To my surprise, you’re actually able to move the camera around during the final standoff, despite how it plays out like a cutscene. Also, if anyone would like to see a post for a few of the photos I took in New Austin after I finished the game, let me know.
PS - I noticed that in the standoff, Dutch never actually aims at John. He’s aiming in John’s direction but at the ground.
PSS - While looking around in New Austin afterwards, I found that the sheriff of Armadillo when you first arrive in town is also the same npc who captures the Del Lobo that Sheriff Freeman shoots upon first entering Tumbleweed. I’m not sure if they’re meant to be the same character, but it’s definitely the same character model all the way down to the sheriff’s badge.
PSSS - I finally got to take a close look at the badge on Sheriff Freeman’s desk. It says “Junior Deputy”, which leads me to believe that at one point, Rockstar may have intended for us to be able to serve as a lawman in a town. The badge just stands out so much on the desk, it really feels like something we should be able to pick up. Even if it’s just superficial and adds little to no extra elements to the game, it still would have been really cool to go around wearing the badge of an official Tumbleweed deputy.
Just a few more missions left in the game and then I’ll be done. After that, there are several things I want to take pictures of in New Austin, which I might make a post out of. Mostly it’s having to do with the Del Lobos, getting shots of them in random events (as well as Sheriff Freeman in his random event with them) and photographing them at their hideouts, which will require a bit of sneaking to get close enough for the pictures. This also extends to Flaco Hernández, who I’ll try to get some images of during the duel (if the camera will let me pan to him). I’ll also try to get some clear shots of all of the bounties in the game.
The gallery glitch from yesterday seems to have fixed itself. Additionally, I managed to get back any of the photos I wasn’t able to upload yesterday. Tomorrow will be finishing up Chapter 6 and potentially finishing the playthrough depending on how much classwork I decide to do.
PS - Slight spoiler in image 3
@Mydemons13 I love landscape shots like that. They remind me of the kinds of shots you’d see a lot of Sergio Leone’s westerns. It’s a shame the photo mode doesn’t let us manipulate the field of view so we could create sweeping shots like that with the same aspect ratio as 70mm film. Maybe if a director mode is added, we might see something like that.
