John did die for his family, but for Arthur, It was loyalty that all mattered, as the game progresses, he bonds with other gang members (Charles, Sadie, John) overall, I would say Arthur is (Arguably) gamings greatest protagonist.
The night folk look like zombies (and they may as well be) AND make no noise, at all. Just plain nightmare fuel.
