There's a small tip if you often hit on trees in the woods. Just press the acceleration button but dont steer. This will trigger the horse to go through the obstacles without crashing. In ps4 its X.

If you ignore the bartender when your in saint denis as Arthur then you can do it as John whenever you come to saint denis.
