100% Completion is an accomplishment in Red Dead Redemption that unlocks an achievement/trophy and an outfit.

Overview[]

100% Completion is achieved when a set of designated tasks has been completed. The following list provides the specific requirements for achieving 100% completion. This accomplishment applies to the main game - the Undead Nightmare DLC has a separate 100% completion accomplishment covered under the achievement/trophy entitled "Zed's Dead, Baby."

Tracking Progress[]

The walkthrough below, details everything that needs to be accomplished to achieve 100% Completion. There are a few ways the player can keep track of their progress in each of the required tasks:

  • The in-game "STATS" menu displays overall progress towards many of the goals, but without specific details.

Red Dead Redemption[]

The requirements for 100% Completion come from eleven different aspects of gameplay as detailed in the subsections below.

Main Missions[]

Each of the 57 story missions that is completed counts as 1%, for a total of 57%.

Rare Weapons[]

Each of the five rare weapons that are acquired from a Gunsmith counts as 0.5%, for a total of 2.5%.

Outfits[]

Each of the nine required outfits that is unlocked counts as 0.5%, for a total of 4.5%. Only the outfits listed below are required for 100% completion.

Job Locations[]

Each job that is completed at one of the five unique locations (once per location) counts as 0.5%, for a total of 2.5%.

Safehouses[]

Armadillosafehouse

Armadillo Safehouse

(Rental properties and Pleasance House are excluded.)

Obtaining all thirteen safehouses is worth a grand total of 2%, meaning each safehouse is worth 2/13 of a percent, or roughly .1538%, however since the percentage is rounded to the nearest tenth, some will appear as being worth .1%, and some as .2%.

Note that the Safehouses must be purchased so that the icon changes from blue to green. A safehouse count can be quickly checked in Stats under "General," after the list of hideout completion times.

Gang Hideouts[]

Rdr pike's basin02

Pike's Basin

Each of the seven gang hideout that is cleared (at least once) counts as 0.5%, for a total of 3.5%. The PS3-used-to-be-exclusive hideout, Solomon's Folly, does not count towards 100% completion.

Ambient Challenges[]

Each ambient challenge is divided into two halves (ranks 1 to 5 and 6 to 10). Each half of each of the four challenges counts as 1%, for a total of 8%. The Tomahawk Mastery and Explosive Rifle Mastery Challenges added by the Legends and Killers DLC do not count towards 100% completion.

Bounty Locations[]

Each of the twenty locations at which a Bounty Target is successfully captured or killed (and the prisoner or evidence of his death successfully returned) is worth 0.1%, adding to a total of 2.0% towards 100% completion.

For 100% completion, eight bounty locations must be completed in New Austin, eight in Nuevo Paraiso and four in West Elizabeth. Note: It is possible to need 9 bounties in New Austin and only 7 in Nuevo Paraiso, plus the four in West Elizabeth. Bounty total for each location can be viewed at the bottom of (score) in the players (stats) menu. After completing a location, new bounties will continue to be posted for the same location, but only one successful completion is needed/counted for 100% completion.

Bounties are placed at approximately 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in any of the major settlements, although some postings have been observed at other times. The player should be in the town or settlement where the bounty is to be posted (i.e. in Armadillo if going after a New Austin bounty) prior to the posting time. At this time, a lawman will come and post the wanted poster (this may take a moment, depending on how close the Safe House is).

In order for the bounty to count, the on-screen message about capturing the target dead or alive must be displayed. If sniping from far away, the bounty may not count.

Eight New Austin Bounties are posted at Armadillo, Rathskeller Fork, and MacFarlane's Ranch.

Eight Nuevo Paraiso Bounties are posted at Escalera, El Presidio, and Chuparosa.

Four West Elizabeth Bounties are posted at Blackwater and Manzanita Post.

Stranger Missions[]

Completion of 18 of the 19 available Stranger missions counts for 0.5% each, for a total of 9%. (The "I Know You" mission does not count toward 100% completion)

Minigames[]

Each of the six minigames that the player wins counts as 0.5%, for a total of 3%.

For each minigame to be counted towards the 100% completion stat, the player must beat all players at the event (in line or at the table). For example, to complete Arm Wrestling the player must beat the person at the table as well as any people in line after him. Each game only needs to be won at a single location. For blackjack you have to leave the table with more chips than when you started, because you can't "win" blackjack.

All of the following minigames are needed to obtain an outfit. Combining the two tasks speeds up the overall process of acquiring 100% completion.

Map Locations[]

Discovering all 94 map locations counts for a total of 6%. This also accomplishes the On the Trail of de Vaca achievement/trophy.

Locations can be "found" by just buying maps of counties from General Stores and pressing "Use" on them.

Locations

All locations seen in the map.

Three locations sometimes fail to register as "found" even after purchasing and using the appropriate maps: Repentance Rock, Tanner's Span and Mason's Bridge. The former is a cluster of steep rock formations in the middle of Rio Bravo (west-north-west of Fort Mercer); the latter two are railway bridges located to the southwest and southeast, respectively, of the Pacific Union Railroad Camp. Manually journeying to these locations (and crossing the bridges) will unlock the locations and count towards 100% completion rate.

Some may have trouble locating The Old Bacchus Place given it is mistakenly placed in Diez Coronas in the fold-out and in-game maps. It is actually located right along the river in Hennigan's Stead.

Total of Percentages[]

Red Dead Redemption[]

List of Completion Percentage
Storyline Missions 57.0%
Rare Weapons 2.5%
Outfits 4.5%
Jobs 2.5%
Safehouses 2.0%
Gang Hideouts 3.5%
Singleplayer Challenges 8.0%
Bounty Locations 2.0%
Strangers 9.0%
Minigames 3.0%
Locations 6.0%
Total = 100.00%

Undead Nightmare[]

List of Completion Percentage
Storyline Missions 23%
Outfits 4%
Undead Challenges 16%
Missing Person Locations 15%
Strangers 12%
Cemeteries 10%
Town Saved 20%
Total = 100%

Undead Nightmare[]

Main Missions[]

Each of the 8 Story Missions in Undead Nightmare carries 0% to 5%. During some of these you are required to complete other portions of the game that also give points towards 100%. On a Pale Horse is not really a mission but more of an epilogue of Undead Nightmare and the permanent zombie state after completion.

Survivor Side-missions[]

There are 6 Survivor Missions (Strangers) worth 2% each. They are found on the map as green "?" icons. There is one in West Elizabeth, four in New Austin, and one in Nuevo Paraiso.

*Note that "Missing Souls" will yield an extra 1% for returning a Missing Person, however, this is a bug and the Social Club only gives 2% for that mission (see Missing Persons below for additional info).

Missing People[]

You need to rescue 16 missing persons in New Austin and Nuevo Paraiso with each worth 1%*. The first person, Millicent, is done through the Missing Souls side mission. The other 15 are found via posters at Fort Mercer and El Presidio.

*You may receive 16% total upon completion of these tasks but it is a bug where the first (Millicent) is not supposed to count during that mission. You can hold that extra point until reaching the end of the game where it will be discounted upon completing other objectives and the 100% math will then work again. The Social Club checklist only lists the additional 15 Missing Persons.

Cemeteries[]

There are 5 cemeteries to clear with each worth 2%.

Undead Challenges[]

There are 4 Undead Challenges to complete throughout the game. You can also find weapon challenges for the Tomahawk and Explosive Rifle but they do not count towards 100% completion.

Outfits[]

Unlock the Zombie Hunter outfit for 4%. The other outfits do not count directly towards 100% completion.

Towns Saved[]

Save all 20 locations needing help in the game with each counting for 1%. Three locations on the map (Fort Mercer, Casa Madrugada, and El Presidio) are safe zones that never get overrun.

Unicorn[]

Find and break the Unicorn after killing the Chupacabra and completing all the Four Horses of the Apocalypse challenge.

Tips and Tricks[]

  • To save time, effort, and money in the minigames, some of the NPCs can be made to go leave gambling tables. In Arm Wrestling and Five Finger Fillet, the NPCs waiting in the line for their turns can be knocked over and will then wander away. This leaves only the man at the table who will become more difficult to beat but the player will only have to beat him. If you push or attack the NPCs waiting in line, ALL NPCs will stop playing the game, including the NPC seated at the table .
  • If there is more than 1 NPC seated at a poker or blackjack table, you can draw a weapon or lasso or take a fighting stance (equip "Fists"). Once you do this, all NPCs playing will get up and run away. Go to a nearby table (e.g. Blackjack or Liar's Dice table), have a drink at he bar, or leave the saloon for another location. It is best to go to a location where an action can be taken, like sitting down at a blackjack table or purchasing supplies in a store. Sit at the table or enter the purchasing menu (you do not have to gamble or buy), then immediately get up and go back to the poker table. There will now be fewer NPCs, usually one but sometimes two.
  • Another method to decrease NPCs playing poker is to get caught cheating, duel the NPC, and win. This will remove the NPC from the table. You can do this until only one NPC remains. The fewer players there are, the more likely the player is to be caught cheating. However, this method forfeits the buy-in and any winnings that have been accumulated. The lost buy-in also counts against gambling winnings (i.e. is counted as money lost). You will have to buy-in to the table again after each duel.
  • Instead of going to all 94 locations, the player can simply purchase all of the available maps saving a lot of time.
  • The physical map that comes with the game reveals all 94 locations.
  • If only 31 out of 32 locations are showing as discovered in Nuevo Paraiso, try heading to The Old Bacchus Place. This location will sometimes show up as a missing location in Nuevo Paraiso, even though it is physically located in New Austin. Plata Grande is another commonly missed location (it's a loop between Tesoro Azul and Sidewinder Gulch).

Glitches[]

  • XboxLogo In some cases a player may achieve 100% completion, but not get the achievement. Turning off the Xbox and reload the game may unlock the achievement automatically on the next game load.
  • After applying Title Update 1.04, some players were unable to fully complete the game due to a bug with locations and bounties not being tracked properly. This issue was fixed on 12/2/10 and should no longer be an issue. Full details of the problem and solution are available in this Rockstar support article.
  • The "On the Trail of de Vaca" achievement/trophy sometimes randomly unlocks after playing multiplayer on LAN, however this does not count for the 95% and all locations must still be discovered.
  • There's also a strange glitch observed on Xbox 360 - two locations from Nuevo Paraiso are not actually found there, but they rather are found in West Elizabeth (they unlock after using Tall Trees map and the stats show the player with 94/94 overall, 47/46 in New Austin, 17/16 in West Elizabeth, but only 30/32 in Nuevo Paraiso)
