Abner Forsyth is a Minor character and Stranger featured in Red Dead Redemption. He appears in and initiates the Stranger side-mission "The Prohibitionist".

Background

Abner Forsyth is a preacher who tries to convince people from the front of the saloon in Blackwater to stop drinking and live life to the full, which highly annoys the owner of the saloon as Abner drives away his customers.

Interactions

Marston meets Abner outside of the saloon in Blackwater. He tries to convince Marston about why drinking is wrong and a waste of your life. Marston disagrees, claiming that he is "taking away our last freedom".

Later on, Marston is halted further up the road by Oliver Phillips, the owner of the Saloon. He tells Marston how he is annoyed by how Abner is slowing down his business, causing him to lose money. Oliver asks Marston to kill Abner and he will make it worth his while.

Marston has the choice of whether to warn Abner or kill him. If Marston kills him, he will gain a $20 bounty which he must evade. If Marston warns him, he would tell him that the people around town wanted Abner dead and his life might be in danger if he continued what he was doing. Abner would then give Marston his most sincere gratitude along with any money he could spare and left the city.

If Abner is killed, Oliver gives Marston $50 and half price for drinks in his saloon, but with a loss of honor. If Abner is warned, Marston gains high honor but Oliver is angry and tells Marston that he will be spreading his nonsense all over the country and doubles the price of drinks in his saloon, although this makes no difference if Marston has the fame level "Gunslinger."
