Ammunition is used for many different things in Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare. If you played Undead Nightmare then you'd know that if a town got invaded then you can give ammo to the alive survivors (If there are any alive.) so you can save the town way quicker then just killing the zombies alone. But some ammo from Weapons in Redemption can't be given to survivors such as the Explosive Rifle but hey at least you can look like a total bad ass to the zombies by blowing them up.
