Baits and Lures (Fishing) are consumable items used in Fishing along with a Fishing Rod in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Characteristics[]

Baits and Lures are either natural or artificial substances/objects that have to be equipped to a Fishing rod to attract and catch fish. Fishes from certain species may be more attracted to a specific bait or lure.

Acquisition[]

Story[]

Cheese, bread and corn baits are in the player's baits and lures wheel by default – there's an infinite stock of them, regardless of whether the corresponding consumable items were obtained or not. These are the only baits available to the player if they steal fishing rod from an NPC[1] before it is "officially" unlocked during "A Fisher of Men" mission. In addition, the player can get Crayfish from crayfish holes scattered around the swamps in Bayou Nwa (see the map). All other baits and lures (except Live Crickets and special lures) are unlocked in shops after "A Fisher of Men" mission. Only Bait & Tackle Shop in Lagras has all types of baits and lures available for sale, while General Stores and the trapper have only select few (see the table below). Special lures only become available for purchase after initiating A Fisher of Fish (Part I) stranger mission by encountering Jeremy Gill for the first time at his home. Live Crickets are unlocked in shops only after Fishing with Javier in Chapter 3. Special spinner is a reward for the completion of "A Fisher of Fish" mission.

Online[]

In Red Dead Online the player also has infinite free stock of cheese, bread and corn baits from the start. All other baits and lures can be purchased in Bait & Tackle Shop, General stores, or via the catalogue (crayfish can be only bought at the shop in Lagras), but they're unlocked at different levels, as shown in the table below. There are no crayfish holes in Online mode, so crayfish can be acquired only at Bait & Tackle Shop in Lagras.
