The Black Elk Tribe is a tribe of Native Americans in Red Dead Revolver. They are crucial enemies in the plot, even if they serve a minor role, gameplay-wise.

History[]

Background[]

General Diego hired the Black Elk Tribe to keep people away from the Bear Mountain after discovering gold there thanks to Griffon. Diego used the gold to get the Black Elk tribesman on his side. There has been a long-standing feud between the Black Elk Tribe and the Red Wolf Tribe on the Mountain and surrounding territories, which intensified when the Black Elks sold themselves out to Diego and defiled the Red Wolf Tribe's sacred burial grounds at the said Mountain.

The chief of the tribe is Grizzly, while Standing Snake is a very prominent member and apparently the only one who can speak English or otherwise human language.

According to Sheriff Bartlett's Journal, the Black Elk buys Snake Oil from Professor Perry to poison their arrowheads and claws.

Events of Red Dead Revolver[]

The Renegade Army is ordered to defend the Bear Mountain and the entrance to the Bear Mountain mine during the mission of the same, while the leader of the Black Elks, Grizzly, had the keys to the prison cells at the mine. After Shadow Wolf kills him, he steals his keys to free his cousin, Red Harlow, from the mines. After Grizzly's death, Standing Snake takes over the rest of the tribe.

During the mission "Hell Pass", Standing Snake's warriors guard the pass and shoot arrows and throw knives at Buffalo Soldier on Gabby Brennan's wagon. Buffalo however, manages to protect himself and Gabby's coach and the pair make it safely out of the Pass.

Unlike Grizzly, Standing Snake survives the encounter.

Known Members[]

Trivia[]

  • Standing Snake is the only known member of the tribe that has the ability to speak like a human, let alone English. Grizzly only roars and growls like a bear while the other tribesmen, as encountered during "Hell Pass", only mimic Native American battle cries or sounds of wild animals.
