Boaz is a supporting character featured in Red Dead Redemption 2.
He served as the mount of Javier Escuella throughout 1899.
History[]
Background[]
It is unknown for how long Javier had Boaz prior to the events of the game, though it seems the two had developed a bit of a bond from the start.
Events of Red Dead Redemption 2[]
Colter Chapter[]
Shortly after the Blackwater Massacre, the Van der Linde gang fled into the mountains alongside Boaz, though Javier rides a Standard Horse in the beginning cutscene. Boaz would be taken into Colter, where, that following morning, Javier and Arthur Morgan would ride out to search for John Marston, who had not returned after going on a scouting mission. The harsh winds irritated Boaz, but he remained faithful to his owner and stood perfectly still as Javier searched for clues on the missing gang member. After stumbling upon John’s dead horse, Boaz begins to get a bit restless and afraid, but calms down shortly after as Javier leaves him in order to cross the steep mountain ledge. Him and Arthur’s horse move further down the mountain a bit, but upon seeing the return of his owner and a pack of wolves, the two horses rear up as Arthur deals with the wolves and Javier carries the wounded John and puts him on Boaz. They run down the mountain, encountering a few more wolves along the way, and ride into the stream to lose their scent. Upon returning back to camp, Boaz is hitched up as John is sent off to recover. Boaz is then ridden to an O'Driscoll hideout alongside the rest of the gang, where he is left nearby just before a shootout occurs. After the shootout, Javier and Lenny Summers retrieve Boaz and the rest of the horses before the gang rides back to Colter. Javier then rides him as the gang goes to rob a train, in which they stop at a ledge near some tracks that are supposed to blow up. This fails, leading to Javier hopping off Boaz and chasing after the train on foot before he falls off and must mount Boaz once more. They meet back up with Arthur and Lenny shortly before the gang steals a few bonds, and Boaz is ridden back to camp.
Horseshoe Overlook Chapter[]
As the gang departs from the Grizzlies, Boaz is seen being ridden by Javier alongside the gang’s caravan, and the two head into the new camp. Optionally, Javier will ride Boaz alongside Arthur and his horse to Chez Porter in order to rob a homestead. After the robbery, they will ride back to camp. He then takes Javier to intercept a few bounty hunters escorting a lost gang member due to be hanged, Sean Macguire. They ride near Blackwater before Javier dismounts to deal with some bounty hunters. Following this, Sean will ride on Boaz alongside Javier back to camp.
Clemens Point Chapter[]
The gang makes their way to Clemens Point, and sometime afterwards Javier and Boaz head to Caliga Hall alongside John and Old Boy to discuss some horses that could be stolen. When Arthur and his horse arrive, they head to the Braithwaite stable. Javier tethers the three horses to Boaz, and a shootout takes place where they are forced to ride away. One of the horses gets loose, and after Arthur retrieves him they get the horses sold before they head back into camp. Optionally, Javier will ride Boaz alongside Arthur and his horse to go fishing at Ringneck Creek. Javier rides him up to the Braithwaite Manor in “Blood Feuds, Ancient and Modern” following Jack Marston’s disappearance.
Saint Denis Chapter[]
Boaz appears when the gang relocates to Shady Belle, but is not ridden by him during this chapter.
Guarma Chapter[]
Boaz appears at Lakay, but is not ridden during this chapter.
Beaver Hollow Chapter[]
The gang goes to Beaver Hollow and later, Javier rides him as the gang leads an attack on a Cornwall Factory, before the two ride back into camp. Javier then rides him during “Our Best Selves”, and he jumps from him in order to rob the train. He then gets back to him, and heads into camp to start packing up. After Javier runs away from the Pinkertons on Boaz, he is never seen again, although a horse greatly resembling him can be purchased at the Tumbleweed Stable by John in 1907 or bought in Red Dead Online.

Boaz is loyal to Javier, and, while he may be a bit skittish, he is able to keep himself well under fire.
