Antlers from a buck, of very high value.
In-game description

Buck Antlers are an animal item found in Red Dead Redemption. They are one of three items that can be obtained by killing and skinning a buck. There is no other use for them in the game other than selling them to merchants for money.

Note: prices listed on this page are based upon the player having neutral honor and playing the game on Normal difficulty. If the player has high honor, the selling price will be Increased by 50% everywhere except Thieves' Landing. Low Honor decreases selling price by 50% everywhere except Thieves' Landing. While playing the game on Hardcore difficulty, money is more scarce and the base, neutral honor price of each item will be slightly lower.

Characteristics[]

They are large and complex bony appendages on the heads of male deer species and Jackalope. Only caribou, also called reindeer, have antlers on the females, and these are normally smaller than those of the males. Nevertheless, fertile does (females) from other species of deer have the capacity to produce antlers on occasion, usually due to increased testosterone levels.

Each antler grows from an attachment point on the skull called a pedicle. While an antler is growing, it is covered with highly vascular skin called velvet, which supplies oxygen and nutrients to the growing bone; once the antler has achieved its full size, the velvet is lost (usually removed by the deer by means of scraping them against trees or the ground) and the antler's bone dies.

This dead bone structure is the mature antler, which is itself shed after each mating season. Older bucks tend to have larger antlers than their younger counterparts. These young bucks are often referred to as spikes (an obvious reference to the shape and size of their budding antlers). There are no spikes in Red Dead Redemption.
