Dutch's Gang

The Van der Linde gang serves as the protagonistic group of Red Dead Redemption 2, and is comprised of multiple central, major, and supporting characters.

Characters are the driving force behind the narrative of Red Dead Redemption 2 and include the various personalities and figures the player may and will encounter throughout their time in the game.

Arthur Morgan
Arthur Morgan First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Arthur Morgan is the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 2. Being a member and the lead enforcer of the Van der Linde gang, the life of an outlaw is all he has ever known. Dutch met Arthur when he was just 14 years old, a particularly damaged and angry young delinquent who had been on the streets ever since losing his parents at a young age. Arthur became Dutch's first real protégé; seemingly a lost cause who, with a little mentoring and structure, transformed into his most dedicated and capable enforcer.
Arthur is a sharp, cool-headed, yet ruthless killer, but with his own sense of honor. He is a man who prides himself in getting the job done.

John Marston First Appearance: "Enter, Pursued by a Memory"

John Marston is the secondary protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 2. Living the outlaw life since he was a child, John was saved by Dutch from a lynching, subsequently joining the Van der Linde gang. He was raised and molded into the outlaw life along with his surrogate brother, Arthur Morgan. The two of them were Dutch's proudest protégés. By 1899, he is the husband of Abigail Roberts and the father of their child, Jack.

Dutch van der Linde is a central character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and the leader of the Van der Linde Gang. Dutch sees himself not as a criminal but as a man fighting against a corrupt system of power. Earlier in his life, Dutch had a vision of turning the West into a kind of savage utopia; that, if he spilled enough blood, he could change the way people think. He took orphans and street kids, such as Arthur Morgan and John Marston, under his wing, teaching them how to read and instilling self-worth and the importance of independent thinking.

Dutch is idealistic, anarchic, charismatic, well-read, and well-lived, but possibly starting to unravel under the pressure of the encroaching modern world.

Abigail Roberts First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Abigail Roberts is a central character in Red Dead Redemption 2. Living as an orphan who grew up scraping out a living in dive bars in brothels in the West, Abigail is a strong, single-minded, straight-talking woman who has seen a lot of life and knows what it takes to survive against the odds. Abigail was introduced to Dutch's gang by Uncle in 1894, and she fell pregnant soon afterward. Her young son Jack is her great pride and purpose. She is determined to give him a better and more loving childhood than she ever had, even if it is an unconditional one.

Annabelle Annabelle is a mentioned deceased member of the Van der Linde gang in Red Dead Redemption 2. Joining the gang at some point prior to 1899, she fell in love with Dutch van der Linde. After an incident where Dutch killed the brother of his one-time associate Colm O'Driscoll, Annabelle was murdered by Colm in return. This began a long-standing feud between the O'Driscoll Boys and Dutch's gang, lasting decades.
Hoseaandbessie
Bessie Matthews Bessie Matthews is a mentioned deceased member of the Van der Linde gang in Red Dead Redemption 2. She would fall in love and later marry Hosea Matthews. The pair would ride together in Dutch's gang, although they would briefly live the life of crime behind, exploring the country. However, Hosea eventually drifted back into the outlaw life. Despite this, Bessie still loved Hosea, and the two remained together. At some point between 1883 and 1899, Bessie passed away, devastating Hosea, who became a drunk for a year to cope with the loss. She was described as a kind and caring woman.
Bill Williamson
Bill Williamson First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Bill Williamson, born Marion Williamson, is a central character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and an enforcer of the Van der Linde gang. After being dishonorably discharged from the U.S. Army in his early twenties for attempted murder and deviancy, Bill turned to a life of violence, drinking, intimidation, and murder. He was at a low point when Dutch met him around 1893. Dutch took Bill under his wing and saved him from himself. Hot-headed and easily riled, he is a regular target for ribbing from the rest of the gang. He tends to act first and think later but is tough, loyal, and always ready to fight.

Charles Smith First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Charles Smith is a central character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a newly-recruited member of the Van der Linde gang. Charles is quiet and reserved but extremely competent in everything he does. Born to a Native American mother and African American father, Charles has spent his whole life on the run and has never felt like he really belongs anywhere. He joined up with Dutch mainly because he found an affinity with the gang's code and a sense of belonging. An expert hunter and tracker, Charles is a decent and honest man who also happens to be deadly in any kind of fight. Extremely principled, he struggles in a world that does not seem to value such ideals.

Davey Callender Only Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Davey Callender is a minor and deceased character in Red Dead Redemption 2. Brother of Mac Callender, he joined the Van der Linde gang at some point prior to 1899. He was an avid drunk and poker player, loved by many members of the gang, while others, such as Charles Smith, viewed him with distaste, calling him and Mac "a vicious pair of bastards." In the Blackwater Massacre, Davey was shot in the gut. As the gang fled north into the hostile mountains of Ambarino, Davey barely clung to life and passes away shortly after the gang arrives at Colter.

Hosea Matthews
Hosea Matthews First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Hosea Matthews is a central character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and second-in-command of the Van der Linde gang. He is known as a master con artist, gentleman, and thief. He has been Dutch's closest friend and his right-hand man for over twenty years. They first met when they tried to rob each other by a fire on the road to Chicago. Both young grifters with similarly subversive ideals became fast friends and partners in crime, running tricks together, ripping off the people they thought deserved it the most.

Intelligent and quick-witted, Hosea can talk his way into, or out of, just about anything. He is now beginning to feel his age just a little.

Jack Marston First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Jack Marston is a central character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and the child of Abigail and John Marston. Young Jack was born into and has grown up with the gang, although everyone has done their best to shield him from the more nefarious elements. He feels lucky to have such a loving mother and a large family of aunts and uncles to look after him, but wishes that he could spend more time with his father and that there were some other children to play with. Jack is a kind, smart, and independent boy who loves everything about nature and the outdoor life.

Javier Escuella First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Javier Escuella is a central character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and an enforcer of the Van der Linde gang. He is a notorious bounty hunter and Mexican revolutionary from Nuevo Paraíso. Javier was forced to flee his country after killing a high-ranking army officer over a woman and cannot return there until there has been a change in power. He joined the gang around 1895 and immediately found a strong connection to Dutch's ideals. A very committed and passionate man, Javier is unquestioning in his loyalty to Dutch, perhaps sometimes to a fault, and is one of his most dependable recruits. Somewhat vainly, he takes a lot of care over his appearance and is always immaculately presented.

Jenny Kirk
Jenny Kirk Jenny Kirk is a minor and deceased character in Red Dead Redemption 2. Lost and abandoned on the side of the road, she was picked up by the Van der Linde gang in 1898, quickly gaining respect among many members of the gang. Hosea comments that she "had a spark." Jenny was not with the gang for long, as she was wounded during the hectic gunfight known as the Blackwater Massacre, dying shortly thereafter.

Josiah Trelawny First Appearance: "Americans at Rest"

Josiah Trelawny is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and an associate of the Van der Linde gang. A flamboyant conjurer, conman, and trickster with a taste for the finer things in life, Trelawny is one of the only people Dutch allows to drift in and out of the gang. He pops out of nowhere, informing the gang of a lead, and then, just like one of his magic tricks, disappears again. He is a very hard man to pin down and not always to be trusted, but he consistently brings the gang good leads and provides some entertainment around camp. A cockroach in fancy britches, Trelawny is able to get into nooks and crannies that the rest of the gang can't.

Karen Jones First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Karen Jones is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a member of the Van der Linde gang. Karen is a consummate scam artist and trigger woman who can drink pretty much anybody under the table and does so most nights. If a bank needs robbing, just say the word, and she'll be the first on her horse. Bold and full of fun, she loves the outlaw life and wouldn't have it any other way, although the debauchery is starting to take a toll on her after all those years. She speaks her mind and takes no nonsense but is big-hearted and looks out for everyone, especially the other girls.

Kieran Duffy First Appearance: "Old Friends"

Kieran Duffy is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2. He is a whipping boy and general dogsbody for a rival gang, the O'Driscoll Boys. Kieran was captured by the Van der Linde gang during a raid and coerced by Dutch into turning on his own people. He later became a part of Dutch's gang in his own right but remains somewhat trapped between a rock and a hard place; the O'Driscolls want him dead, and his new associates will never fully trust him. A scraggly and toady individual of dubious personal hygiene, Kieran has much more of a connection to horses than he does to people.

Lenny Summers First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Lenny Summers is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a newly-recruited enforcer of the Van der Linde gang. Young Lenny has spent the previous three years on the run for murder from every lawman and bounty hunter west of the Lannahechee River. Some drunks jumped and killed his father when he was walking home one night, so Lenny stole a gun and shot them all. He was only fifteen years old at the time. His father and uncle were well-educated and gave Lenny good schooling when he was growing up. Smart, competent, and ambitious, he is always ready to do his part and is fairly happy living in a community where he is mostly judged for his ability, not his appearance.

Leopold Strauss First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Leopold Strauss is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a member of the Van der Linde gang. Herr Strauss is responsible for keeping the gang's books and running their money-lending operations. A serious, somewhat shifty, and unemotional man, he has all the qualities a loan shark needs. He grew up very poor in Vienna, in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and had some serious health problems during childhood. At 17, the young Strauss was sent on a boat to the New World. After years of scamming the wrong people, he fell in with Dutch, mainly for protection, and has been with him ever since.

Mac Callander Mac Callender is a minor and deceased character in Red Dead Redemption 2. Along with his brother, Davey, Mac was an outlaw who joined Dutch's gang at some point prior to 1899. He was known for being wild and violent while also possessing immense physical strength. He was described as a "heartless son of a bitch," yet he was also described to have also had a heart. After the Blackwater Massacre, Mac went missing along with Sean MacGuire and was captured by Pinkerton Agents. He would be killed by Agent Milton in what was claimed to be a "slow but merciful" death.

Mary-Beth Gaskill First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Mary-Beth Gaskill is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a member of the Van der Linde gang. Mary-Beth is a kind, good-natured young woman, which makes her the perfect criminal. By the time people realize they've been duped, she is already on her way home with the money. She'd been put in an orphanage at a young age after her mother died of typhoid, but ran away to fend for herself and soon became known as the best pickpocketer around. Smarter and more perspicacious than she often lets on, Mary-Beth loves to read and write and has dreams of becoming a novelist one day.

Micah Bell First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Micah Bell III is a central character and the main antagonist of Red Dead Redemption 2. A career criminal and hitman, Micha fell in with Dutch's gang in 1898. He claims he met Dutch when he saved his life in a bar fight over some stolen gold. He comes from a long line of bad men. His father and grandfather before him were also called Micah Bell, and, at one point, his father was wanted for murder in five counties. He has a brother living in California, whom he despises. Wild, unpredictable, and something of a nihilist, he lives for the action and is great in a gunfight.

Molly O'Shea First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Molly O'Shea is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and the lover of Dutch van der Linde. A Dublin girl and the object of Dutch's affection, Molly is too high-strung for a life on the run, and it's all starting to take a toll on her. She claims to be from a well-to-do Irish family who came over to America on a romantic whim in search of adventure and excitement. Molly certainly found that in Dutch but wants more than he can, or is prepared to, give her. She considers herself a few cuts above the other gang members, which hasn't won her many supporters in camp.

Orville Swanson First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Orville Swanson is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a member of the Van der Linde gang. A former clergyman now lost to debauchery, Swanson has fallen a long way from the standards he once set himself and struggles with many demons. He started using morphine to ease some pain a few years back, but it quickly took a desperate hold on him. A beaten man who has lost his self-esteem, direction, and most of his religion, his failings are made all worse as he is very much aware of them. If he hadn't saved Dutch's life in the past, it's unlikely the gang would've kept him around this long.

Sadie Adler First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Sadie Adler is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a newly-recruited member of the Van der Linde gang. Sadie is a widow hell-bent on taking revenge upon the men who broke into her home and killed her husband, Jake. She grew up raising harsh land in the mountains and can ride, hunt, and shoot with the best of them. She and Jake shared all of the work on the farm until her whole life was taken from her in an instant, launching her on a relentless quest for vengeance. Tough, dogged, and afraid of nothing and no one, she is entirely the wrong woman to cross- but very loyal to those she loves.

Sean MacGuire is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and an enforcer of the Van der Linde gang. A cocky young Irish thief and stick‐up man who comes from a long line of criminals and political dissidents. His father, a wanted man, fled with Sean to America, but the British pursued them and killed him in his bed. He ran into Dutch and Hosea up in North Elizabeth when he tried to rob Dutch's pocket watch in an alleyway, unsuccessfully. Sean likes to push people's buttons. He always wants a piece of the action and believes in himself... perhaps a little too much.

Simon Pearson First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Simon Pearson is a supporting in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a member of the Van der Linde gang. The gang's butcher and camp cook, Pearson did a short stint at sea that he likes to talk about at length. His father and grandfather were both sperm whale hunters, and he was going to follow in their footsteps, but by the time he left school, nobody wanted whale oil anymore. He came out west and got into some bad trouble with some men who were shaking him down for his money. Dutch found him at his wit's end and took him under his wing. He is a loud, jolly degenerate who puts on a brave face but is somewhat in denial about the turn life has taken him.

Susan Grimshaw First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Susan Grimshaw is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a member of the Van der Linde gang. She is the undisputed boss and arbiter of justice in the gang's camp; everything would have fallen apart years ago had Susan not been in charge. She's been with the gang nearly as long as Arthur. She used to be in a relationship with Dutch back in the old days, and even after that ended, they've remained strong partners in crime. Years as an outlaw have left her a little jaded, but she wouldn't have it any other way. Tenacious and iron-willed, she stands for no nonsense.

Tilly Jackson First Appearance: "Outlaws from the West"

Tilly Jackson is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a member of the Van der Linde gang. An outlaw for almost as long as she can remember, Tilly ran with another gang that kidnapped her from her mother when she was just 12 years old. After years of abuse, she killed one of the gang members and fled. She was getting into trouble and heading down a bad path when Dutch found her- but he brought her in, protected her, and taught her how to read. Savvy, resilient, and responsible, she can more than handle herself and isn't afraid to speak her mind.

Uncle is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a member of the Van der Linde gang. A hanger-on and a good-time guy, Uncle is always around when the whiskey is open and nowhere to be seen when there's any work to be done. Nobody is quite sure how old he is or if he's actually anybody's uncle. He's lived a colorful life that gets more vibrant with every story he tells. He claims to have had many wives and to have traveled to every corner of the globe; he also asserts that he has terminal lumbago. If he wasn't so entertaining, Dutch would have cut him loose long ago.

Cleet is a supporting antagonist in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a member of the Van der Linde gang later on in the story. A close associate of Micah Bell and his friend, Joe, he only joined the gang when it was hanging together by a thread. Acting as an extra gun for an upcoming train heist, Cleet was a rather late and untimely addition to the gang,

Joe is a supporting antagonist in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a member of the Van der Linde gang later on in the story. Like Cleet, he is a close associate of Micah Bell, who was brought into the gang as an extra gun for an upcoming train heist.

Alberto Fussar is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and serves as the antagonist for the fifth chapter. The tyrannical ruler of the plantation island of Guarma, Fussar has established a rich empire based on sugar farming, gaining close connections with the city of Saint Denis and the American military.

Andrew Milton is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and the secondary antagonist of the story. Milton is a high-ranked detective in the Pinkerton National Detective Agency. After the Van der Linde gang robbed a train owned by Leviticus Cornwall in the Grizzlies, Cornwall hired Milton and his protégé, Edgar Ross, to track down the gang and bring Dutch van der Linde to justice.

Angelo Bronte is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and serves as the antagonist for the fourth chapter. Born in 1844, Bronte is a wealthy Italian businessman and crimelord, mainly operating in the city of Saint Denis. With the police department in his pocket, Bronte and his mob indulge in many criminal activities, including bribery, smuggling, and racketeering.

Catherine Braithwaite is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and serves as an antagonist in the third chapter. She is the eldest family member and matriarch of the wealthy Braithwaite family, locked in a long-lasting feud between the rival Gray family. Residing in a lavish manor, she is not afraid to indulge in criminal activities, selling moonshine to the Lemoyne Raiders and communicating with Angelo Bronte.

Colm O'Driscoll is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and serves as an antagonist throughout the story. A seasoned, infamous outlaw and the leader of the O'Driscoll Boys, Colm O'Driscoll, has been locked in a bitter blood feud with the Van der Linde gang after Dutch killed Colm's brother, and Colm murdered Annabelle in return. Over the years, Colm would expand his operations considerably, turning his gang into one of the largest and most powerful criminal organizations in the West. He was arrested and convicted of murder twice but managed to escape on both occasions before he could be hanged. Colm is notably famous for his "quantity over quality" ideology, contrasting with Dutch's gang.

Eagle Flies First Appearance: "Eastward Bound"

Eagle Flies is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and serves as a supporting protagonist throughout the story. He was the second son of Rains Fall, the chief of the Wapiti Indians. Both his mother and brother were killed by the U.S. Army, and he, along with his people, was herded into the cramped Wapiti Indian Reservation. Being a prideful and reckless young man, Eagle Flies believed his tribe's conflict with the military could only be solved through war, contrary to his father's beliefs.

Henry Favours is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and serves as an antagonist in the game's sixth chapter. Favours fought for the Union during the American Civil War, being promoted to colonel by 1899. However, rumor has it that his career was anything but successful, and his nicknames suggest that he either ran from battle or at least missed one. Following the war, Colonel Favours was stationed at Fort Wallace in the Cumberland Forest region of New Hanover to oversee the Wapiti Indian reservation.

Hercule Fontaine is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and serves as a supporting protagonist in the fifth chapter. A Haitian pirate and smuggler, Hercule would get involved in the uprising against Alberto Fussar in Guarma. He smuggled supplies, such as weapons, to rebels on the island to aid in the revolt.

Leigh Gray is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and serves as an antagonist during the game's third chapter. A member of the wealthy Gray family, he is the brother of Tavish Gray, son of Murdo Gray, and uncle to Beau Gray. Leigh is the sheriff of the town of Rhodes and its surrounding regions, although he is highly incompetent at his job, being an alcoholic and very boastful man.

Leviticus Cornwall is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and serves as an antagonist throughout the story. Cornwall is an industrial titan, oil, sugar, and railway magnate and one of the richest men in the country. He owns many of the businesses the Van der Linde gang has set their sights on, with his greatest power being accumulated in Saint Denis. He has built up connections with several other antagonists, including the Pinkertons, U.S. Army, and Alberto Fussar.

Mary Linton First Appearance: "We Loved and Once True II"

Mary Linton (née Gillis) is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and the love interest of Arthur Morgan. During her youth, Mary was in a romantic relationship with Arthur Morgan, and the two was deeply in love, but it ultimately fell through due to Arthur's life as an outlaw, leading to prevalent disapproval from her family as a result, particularly her father. Afterward, Mary eventually married a man named Barry Linton, but he later passed away from pneumonia, leaving her a widow. To make matters worse, her family grew to be dysfunctional as well; her younger brother, Jamie, had joined Chelonia, while her father gradually became more withdrawn and verbally abusive to his children

Rains Fall First Appearance: "Eastward Bound"

Rains Fall is a major character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and serves as a supporting protagonist throughout the story. Serving as chieftain of the Wapiti tribe, he originally fought as a young man, slowly evolving into a pacifist as he grew older. Rains Fall had signed three treaties with the United States government as of 1899, two of which had already been broken, while the third consigned his tribe to live on the Wapiti Indian Reservation. Rains Fall also had a wife and two sons; his elder son had his head smashed by a drunken soldier, and his wife had her throat slit, also by a soldier. Only his younger son, Eagle Flies, lived, and both of their views on how to handle the conflict with the military clashed.

Anthony Foreman First Appearance: "Polite Society, Valentine Style"

Anthony Foreman is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and serves as a minor antagonist throughout the story. Anthony Foreman is the leader of the rowdy and abusive Foreman Brothers gang, which a young Tilly Jackson was a member of. However, she eventually killed Anthony's cousin, Malcolm, for supposedly necessary reasons and subsequently left the gang. Since then, Anthony swore revenge on her, seeing her departure from the gang as abandoning what he considered her family.

Archibald MacGregor is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and serves as a supporting antagonist during the game's third chapter. A resident of Rhodes, Archibald is an avid supporter of the wealthy Gray family. Archibald first worked for the family at their plantation, Caliga Hall, and later became a deputy under Sheriff Leigh Gray. Archibald is the loyal right hand man of Sheriff Gray, and is not afraid to ride out into a firefight for him.

Archibald "Archie" Downes is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2. Archie is the son of Edith and Thomas Downes and lives at Downes Ranch with his family. His father, Thomas, faced financial struggles and got a loan from Leopold Strauss to alleviate the pressure. However, when the time came, his father was unable to pay the debt. As a result, Arthur Morgan confronted Thomas, who was sick with tuberculosis, to beat the debt out of him, and he did so, beating him to death. Thomas would die soon after, forcing Edith to sell the ranch and the pair to wander the country looking for work.

Beauregard "Beau" Gray is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2. A younger member of the Gray family, Beau feels he is trapped. Locked in an unwanted marriage with his cousin, Mathilda, Beau fell in love with someone else- a member of the rival Braithwaite family, whom the Grays have had a century-long feud with. Much to the dismay of both families, Beau fell in love with Penelope Braithwaite, a relationship that could get both of them killed.

Regardless of whether the player donates, he will inform them of a slave trafficking operation in the pawnbroker shop that the player must stop.

When he failed to repay the debt, Arthur Morgan was sent to beat the sick man nearly to death. Shortly after Thomas died from his wounds, Edith and Archie were forced to sell the ranch and roam the country in search of work. Edith ended up becoming a prostitute in desperation to make money.

Despite this, he and his ranch hands are often harassed by the local Laramie Gang, paid thugs from Hanging Dog Ranch who are attempting to take his land.

Despite this, Jamie also has a poor relationship with his father, who verbally abuses and belittles Jamie, leading to him having issues with self-esteem. At some point, Jamie ran away from home and joined Chelonia, an infamous fanatical cult.

He has become verbally abusive towards to his children and become addicted to alcohol, whoring, and gambling. He has also started pawning off his family's valuables, likely to pay off his debt.

Paytah is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2. Paytah was born into the Wapiti tribe and serves as the trusted companion of Eagle Flies, the son of the Wapiti chieftain, Rains Fall.

Penelope Braithwaite is a supporting character in Red Dead Redemption 2. A member of the Braithwaite family, she is the love interest of Beau Gray. Like Beau, she felt trapped in her family, wanting to be together with Beau, despite him being apart of the rival Gray family. Penelope is also an activist for the, at the time, controversial women's suffrage movement.

Thomas Downes is a minor but key character in Red Dead Redemption 2. He is the husband of Edith Downes and the father of Archie Downes. Residing at Downes Ranch, he started running a ranch and led a fundraiser for The Charitable Organisation of New Hanover. Being financially unstable, Downes sought and received a loan from Leopold Strauss. However, Thomas was unable to repay the loan, resulting in Strauss sending Arthur to reclaim the debt. Arthur arrives at his ranch, and Thomas claims he has no money. Arthur beats Thomas nearly to death. Edith tells Arthur that Thomas has an illness, so Arthur leaves the property. Thomas passes on soon after.
