Nothing is known of Coke's background. His occupation is unknown, but since he appears to be squatting in Coot's Chapel rather than in a home or work camp, he likely has very little money saved from occasionally gambling in Thieves' Landing, although badly.

Coke can most often be found playing Liar's Dice in the Thieves' Landingsaloon or competing in Arm Wrestling contests at Plainview. He appears to be bad at both professions. He will always spawn at the small campsite with a cauldron at Coot's Chapel along with an unknown older man and Morris Snead. At night, he will sleep in the church. Although armed, Coke will more often than not flee when threatened or attacked.
