The Cow is a farm animal found in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Description[]
Cows (known in-game as the Florida Cracker Cow) can be found at ranches and homesteads across the states. As herbivores, their diet consists of grains, hay and grasses. The large size of these mammals can mean that it takes longer to kill them when hunting. A long scope rifle, or a Bow with Improved Arrows, are considered to be the best weapons to use whilst hunting. Their hide can be sold to traders, and their prime beef is a good source of food.
Location[]
Cows can be found in select communities, notably ranches.
- Northern Saint Denis
- Hanging Dog Ranch
- Painted Sky
- Wapiti Indian Reservation
- MacFarlane's Ranch
- Hill Haven Ranch
- Manzanita Post
- Carmody Dell
- Emerald Ranch
- Beecher's Hope (Post-Epilogue)
Tips[]
Cows only spawn at farms and cannot be found in the wild. However, killing them there will most likely result in a shootout and/or a bounty. Regardless of what method is used, killing a cow will cause the player's Honor to drop.
- Therefore, it is best to first lure the animal away and then make the kill in an isolated location. Players may use their lasso to perform a melee instant kill.
- Visiting ranches at midnight also helps to lessen the hassle of looking out for patrolling owners.
- Beecher's Hope would sometimes spawn cows outside the stable where players can use their tools, and serves as the only place in the game one can hunt cows in without repercussion.
- Cows spawned outside the stable usually bear a one-two star quality rating.
Trivia[]
- Interestingly, killing cows in Beecher's Hope will still incur an Honor loss.
- Milking cows is an interactable event that only happens after John does several ranch chores.
- Players are introduced to this in the mission Simple Pleasures.
- Hunting cows in the ranch will not affect the spawning of the one that John milks.
