Cumberland Falls is a waterfall in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online in The Heartlands region of the New Hanover territory. The waterfall is a part of the Dakota River.

History[]

Events of Red Dead Redemption 2[]

Colter Chapter[]

Cumberland Falls is first featured in the mission, "Eastward Bound," where the gang packs up their camp in the abandoned settlement of Colter following the thaw of the blizzard, and move southeast for New Hanover. Arthur Morgan and Hosea Matthews are driving a wagon at the end of the gang’s caravan, and as they cross the falls, one of the wheels break off. Getting out of the stream, the pair fix the wagon with the assistance of Charles Smith. As they finally bash on the wheel, Hosea points at a trio of Native Americans observing them from a cliff top across the river.

Horseshoe Overlook Chapter[]

Following the completion of "Eastward Bound," Cumberland Falls can be visited at any time, as free-roam is unlocked with this chapter. In a bounty hunting mission from Valentine, which can be unlocked in this chapter, the player is assigned to find Ellie Anne Swan alive. She can be found in a camp on the shore nearby Cumberland Falls, with a man who she can kill if the player does not act quickly enough.

Saint Denis Chapter[]

Cumberland Falls is revisited in the stranger mission, "Oh, Brother III," which is unlocked in Chapter 4. Brothers Proetus and Acrisius intensify their rivalry, climbing into barrels and asking the player to push them down the waterfall in order to prove their braveness to Helen.

The first High Stakes Treasure can be found behind the waterfall.

Trivia[]

  • If the player were to go down Cumberland Falls, the waterfall is short enough that, though they would lose a large chunk of their health, they would most likely survive.
  • Cumberland Falls is one of two labeled Waterfalls on the Dakota River, the other one being Donner Falls.
  • In Red Dead Online, Cumberland Falls can be the location of a gang hideout.
  • Near Cumberland Falls the player may have a random encounter with a young man skipping stones across the river.
