Yeah, I was young and dumb once too... you'll get her back.
David Geddes to John Marston

David Geddes is a supporting character featured in Red Dead Redemption 2.

History

Background

David Geddes is the owner of Pronghorn Ranch in West Elizabeth. He is, seemingly, a well-respected and well-connected man in Blackwater as well as the local community.

He lives on the ranch with his wife, Mrs. Geddes, and his two sons, Duncan and Angus.

Events of Red Dead Redemption 2

Mr. Geddes is first encountered when John goes to ask Mr Dickens what he needs to do to earn his keep. He finds Dickens talking to Geddes, and he tells him that he needs to work extra hard due to him having a family. Geddes and John will then go there separate ways.

Geddes will next be seen, when calls John over. He tells him that he is going to Blackwater, and he needs John to do several things for the ranch. The first, is that he needs John to help his wife with a horse who is giving birth. The second, is that his son Duncan is attempting to ride a horse for too strong for him, and John needs to help his son mount it. Geddes will then ride away.

After the ranch is attacked by the Laramie Gang, he calls John over, and tells him that he knows that sometime ago John was a gunslinger. He also, however, tells him that he thinks that everyone deserves a second chance, and asks him to lead an assault on Hanging Dog Ranch. After this assault is successful, he thanks John for saving his land.

John will eventually go to Geddes house, with the intention of asking him to put in a good word for him at the bank, so he can buy Beecher's Hope. Geddes older son, Angus, will answer the door and fetch his father. David will tell John that he is happy that he came because his wife was in her daily tirade about his behavior, and the two will have a conversation about their marital problems. John will then ask Geddes if he will put a good word in the bank, who accepts saying that its the least he can do for someone who saved his ranch. He will tell John to talk to a distant cousin named Ansel Atherton who works at the bank, before wishing him farewell.

Later in the story, David and his wife ask their two sons to send John and his family some of their old furniture as a housewarming present. John and Abigail appreciate the Geddes family's generosity.

Trivia

  • It is alluded to by several of his ranch hands that he ventures to Blackwater in search of female company.
  • He normally will only allow people to work on the ranch if they are unmarried (however there has been at least one exception to this rule).
