We got off the mountain and rode east into some pretty enough country called the Heartlands.
Arthur Morgan

Eastward Bound is a mission in Red Dead Redemption 2. It is the final mission of Chapter 1.

Mission Overview[]

With renewed strength and the weather finally stable, the gang rides down from the mountains to set up camp at Horseshoe Overlook.

Story[]

After the gang decides to move east to Horseshoe Overlook, Arthur gets on a wagon with Hosea, and the rest of the gang gets on wagons and horses for the ride.

After crossing a stream, one of the wheels on Arthur's and Hosea's wagon falls off. Charles, who was riding with Bill, stays back with them to help. While putting the wheel back on, Hosea points out that some Native Americans are watching them from a nearby cliff. After fixing the wagon, they continue on the path to Horseshoe Overlook.

Gold Medal Objectives[]

  • Pick up Javier when entering Horseshoe Overlook.
  • Complete within 6 minutes.

Mission Failure[]

The mission will fail if the player:

  • Assaults, kills, or abandons Hosea, Charles (and Javier if picked up);
  • Diverts off the route to Horseshoe Overlook;
  • Destroys or abandons the wagon;
  • Dies.

Background Music Played in the Mission[]

  • "Moonlight Open"[1] - Played when the Van der Linde gang are riding east to Horseshoe Overlook before crossing a stream.[2]

Trivia[]

  • After this mission is complete, Lenny and Micah will be at camp and available for interactions. If the player saves and reloads, or Arthur leaves camp, they will be gone and Grimshaw notifies Arthur that they have been sent scouting out west. Lenny will not return to camp until "A Quiet Time" and Micah will not return until after "An American Pastoral Scene" is completed.
  • After this mission is complete, Reverend Swanson, Charles, Javier and Bill will be missing from camp. Bill will not return until after "Americans at Rest" is completed. Reverend Swanson will return to camp during "Who is Not Without Sin", and Charles and Javier return to camp after "The First Shall Be Last" is complete.
  • After this mission is complete, Uncle will be unavailable for interactions except to disturb him to start "Polite Society, Valentine Style".
  • After this mission is complete, Karen, Tilly and Mary-Beth may make comments during interactions with Arthur about being bored until "Polite Society, Valentine Style" is completed. Hosea may also get annoyed with Arthur and tell him to go bother Uncle.
  • The name of this mission may be a reference to the song "Homeward Bound" by Simon & Garfunkel.
  • Arthur will make a two page Journal entry after this mission is complete.
  • The player can get either Arthur's unique closed winter coat on patch 1.00 or Arthur without suspenders on latest patch. You can see this here https://youtu.be/PmZ0K5X4VIg?si=P8ZFUtu7RPHUBTwZ
