Experience is a representation of a player's previous involvement in multiplayer game modes. Experience is earned by completing specific tasks, and these experience points (commonly abbreviated to XP) will allow the player to level up. As the player levels up, they will unlock specific item upgrades, including: horses, weapons, characters appearance and titles. There are a total of 300 online levels to achieve.
Earning Experience[]
There are many ways for a player to receive online experience:
- Total Kills = 1 if unarmed, 5 if armed
- Headshots = 3
- Clearing Gang Hideouts
- Completing Outlaw Challenges
- Completing Hunting Challenges
- Completing Lawbringer Challenges
- Completing Sharpshooter Challenges
- Completing Survivalist Challenges
- Completing Co-Op Missions
- Completing PVP Challenges

Experience in Red Dead Online (RDR2)[]
The experience system returns in the online counterpart of Red Dead Redemption II. The system differs from the first game due to leveling up unlocks the ABILITY to purchase items instead of automatically obtaining items upon leveling up. Experience points can be earned in many different ways, with each method containing different net values of experience points. Killing enemies in different ways will yeild the player many additional experience points. Experience points are given in bulk via completing free roam missions, active participation in PVP modes, and clearning gang hideouts. Hunting also provides experience points. Lastly, comletely milestones on Red Dead Online will yeild the player large amounts of experience points.
