Martha's Swain is a homestead in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online in the Grizzlies East region of the Ambarino territory.

It lies to the southeast of O'Creagh's Run, just west of the Ambarino state border to New Hanover.

Background[]

Inside the cabin, the player can find a letter written to Martha from a man named Garfield, dated 1864.

Garfield appears to be a Southern soldier fighting on behalf of the Confederacy, while Martha is a Northern woman with whom he was in love. In the letter, Garfield discusses thoughts of deserting the army, an upcoming uphill battle against the Yankees and fears of dying.

It remains unclear how Martha died, or why the corpse of her was left to rot in the cabin, but it could be possible she committed suicide or died from an illness. If the player chooses to venture to the hills upon which the battle mentioned in the letters took place, Bolger Glade in Scarlett Meadows, Lemoyne, they can find Garfield's corpse; his skeletal remains are pined into a tree, wearing a sign that brands him as a traitor. A letter from Martha can be found on his corpse.

Notes[]

  • A cabin can be found here; on the bedroom's nightstand is a Pocket Mirror. This can be given to Molly O'Shea to complete her item request.
  • In a tree stump west of the shack is embedded a Rusted Hunter Hatchet.
  • The word swain in the name is used in poetry for a male sweetheart, which makes sense given Martha's 'swain' was Garfield, from their letters and reflects their sad story.
  • Occasionally when inside the house a loud sound can be heard and the door leading to the bedroom can swing back and forth. It is presumed that this cabin may be haunted perhaps by Martha.
