The American Standardbred is a horse breed in Red Dead Redemption 2. They tend to have higher speed, moderate acceleration and lower health and stamina.

Description[]

American Standardbreds are race horses, identified by their agile frame, powerful limbs and healthy coat. This breed handles well, is easy to train, but can be frightened by loud noises. They are healthy, and their average stamina allows them to maintain a fast pace for a long time.

Catalogue Description[]

American Standardbreds are fine jumpers and exhibit a calm, bold, intelligent temperament. Highly sought after for their speed and placid disposition, they are known for their strong, dense bones and ability to maintain high trotting speeds. Their bodies are long, their withers well defined, and their legs solid and refined. This is a horse that is very people-oriented.

Special variants[]

Ennis[]

The horse of Sean MacGuire in 1899. Ennis has a "Silver Tail Buckskin" coat and can be found within the gang's camp. In the epilogue, a horse resembling Ennis can be purchased by the player at the A. Aitken Livery & Stable in Tumbleweed.

Ariel[]

A man riding this Black American Standardbred will approach the player and ask for a race. The player can then either lose or win the race, to which the man will make a remark about her. This random encounter will occur twice and it is possible for the player to take Ariel as their own.

Others[]

In Red Dead Online, Horley rides a unique American Standardbred with a "Light Buckskin" coat.

Trivia[]

  • The Black American Standardbred is the only one of the top three horses from the first game to still naturally have the exact same coat, mane, and tail color in the sequel.
  • The Silver Tail Buckskin has standard handling unlike all other American Standardbreds.
  • It is possible to obtain a Buckskin American Standardbred at Chez Porter.
  • The Palomino Dapple can be obtained for free during a random encounter where the horse will either kick a man to death or run off, in which case the horse must be lassoed and stolen in order to be kept by the player.
  • A horse using an unique model that resembles the American Standardbred with a Dappled Black Chestnut coat exists within the game as a corpse, it is possible that this horse is unused within the final game due to the coat being unrealistic.
