History[]
Background[]
Squears operates Hill Haven Ranch alongside a male companion. In 1899, he is shown to have positively developed his ranch, owning a herd of cattle which he keeps in three different pens. Squears also seems to have built up business ties with Kauffman Farms, as their milk wagons are commonly seen at the ranch.
Events of Red Dead Online[]
In 1898, Squears is absent from the ranch.

Saint Denis Chapter[]
During the companion activity "Go Rustling", Uncle and Arthur Morgan head up to Squears' ranch to steal his cattle and sell them. Upon arriving at the ranch, and after dealing with two other rustlers, Arthur shoots the cow pen's lock, waking Squears up. After getting the cows out, Squears, still half-asleep, comes out of his house, carrying his shotgun. Upon seeing Arthur and Uncle taking his cows, he tries to stop them, but only knocks himself out after hitting a wooden post. Arthur and Uncle then leave with the cattle without any more trouble.
Outside of missions, Squears can be encountered on his ranch. If the player gets too close to him, he will tell them to leave.
Character[]
Personality[]
“ | He's such a flop that we could take a whole marching band up there and steal 'em (the cattle) and he still wouldn't wake up. | „ |
—Uncle about Squears' drinking habits |
Squears is implied to suffer from severe alcoholism, drinking so much that he sleeps so deep not even a marching band could wake him up. He is shown to dislike visitors at his ranch, drawing his weapon and asking the player to leave if they approach him. Uncle mentions that, according to the bartender of the Rhodes Parlour House, Squears' excessive drinking also caused him to become more and more mentally confused. Uncle also states Squears said unkind things about him behind his back.
Appearance[]
Squears appears as a middle-aged man, likely in his mid-40s. He has green eyes, thinning dark brown hair, a thick mustache, and bushy sideburns. He always wears a dirty white undershirt and worn blue dungarees. He also wears yellowish boots.

Trivia[]
- If the player enters his bedroom during "Go Rustling" while sneaking, Squears will not wake up. However, if the player is not quiet enough near him, he will wake up, grab his nearby Carcano Rifle and begin repeatedly shooting at the player.
- Squears will not immediately wake up if a shootout occurs between Arthur and Uncle and the other rustlers outside of his house in "Go Rustling".
- He owns an Australian Shepherd that can be seen roaming around his ranch. If Squears becomes hostile, the dog will also attack the player.
- Kauffman Farms is likely a patron of Squears, as their milk wagons can be seen stopping at his ranch.
- His name is only mentioned by Clay Davies, who describes him as an acquaintance at the end of "Go Rustling".
- When encountering him in Free Roam, he will be using either a Cattleman Revolver, Double-action Revolver, or Schofield Revolver. This varies with every encounter.
- While Squears always uses the same model, his companion's appearance is randomized.
