Ive tried twice for this achievement and wasted my time. now im raging and want to smash eveything. between pvp and this ive wasted a whole week. whats the deal with this trophy. i have 745 hours into this game so i know what im doing but i used the advice on this site and failed twice. i only need this achievement to unlock the platinum trophy. the only horse that died was on the seth mission where we drive his wagon while he throws bodies out the back. according to this wiki it doesnt matter because i never hitched the horse. who ever edited that particular page may be wrong or made a typo . i know i never hitched a horse other than my first one . never killed my horse either. completed 20 story missons again. the only horse that died was seths.

Wow, that's a bummer since this one takes a long time to get.
But I think I'd have to steer you toward the secondary method listed on the page (I have to review that first paragraph as you might be correct that it's not helpful).
Basically:
Another way to do this is to keep the first stallion awarded during the MacFarlane's Ranch mission thread. Even though the player breaks a different horse in the mission "Wild Horses, Tamed Passions" (a Kentucky Saddler), this does not affect the achievement as it does not technically change horses - the game has done it for you. Keep this horse alive for the remaining missions needed, so leave it away from the action until the fighting is done, and away from any high fall. If a different horse is hitched, it resets the count. So keep the same horse alive for 20 missions for this achievement/trophy. To ensure the horse does not die, or don't accidentally mount another horse follow these tips: Get off the horse a little ways away from a gun fight. If there are a lot of horses when the instructions say to mount a horse, run a little bit away then whistle (Up on D-Pad), then mount, and always check if it's the right one.
I followed this method and got the achievement just a bit after getting into Mexico, so I know it works. It requires you to be more diligent about your horse, but you will get the achievement following this method.
Cheers!
