i read that you may be able to take snapshots of the game screen with the PS3,i see alot of pics on wikia of in game play
is this possible ? and if so how is it done ?

The PS3 has the ability for games to include a screenshot function that works by pressing a key on a Bluetooth keyboard. Unfortunately that function was added relatively recently by Sony, so most games so far, including RDR, don't have it enabled. So, there is nothing built-in to the PS3 to take screenshots for RDR.
In order to capture shots of the game you need to either (a) use a camera (which has many downsides and would require careful setup, planning, and editing to get a decent shot) or (b) use a capture setup that sends the video directly to a computer.
I have a capture setup that works, but it was not straightforward to configure and is still not the full quality that I would like.
