Gavin is a minor character mentioned in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Background[]
Gavin was most likely born somewhere in the British Isles. Later in life, he, along with his friend Nigel, decided to leave Britain behind in their pursuit for a new life, and chose the United States as their destination. So, at some time prior to 1899, the two embarked on their journey and reached America.
At some point after reaching the New World, Nigel woke up and Gavin was gone. In 1899 and 1907, Nigel can be seen traversing the map in search for his lost friend.
Interactions[]
Gavin himself is not seen in the game, however, his friend Nigel can be encountered on numerous occasions throughout the game. He tells the player about how he woke up one morning to find that his best friend, Gavin, had disappeared and still has not been located.
Trivia[]
- Gavin is not seen anywhere in the game.
- The player can encounter his friend Nigel in 1907, where he appears to have gone insane due to the excessive searching. He appears much more unkempt and stressed than he did eight years before.
- It is possible that Gavin left Nigel after an argument, which is implied through Nigel's dialogue, although Nigel states that he believes Gavin was "taken by someone".
- It is implied that Gavin simply doesn't exist and that Nigel may suffer from dissociative identity disorder. A letter that can be found after looting Nigel written by his friend, Tom, provides further hints to Nigel and Gavin's story.[1]
- Some speculate that Gavin is a reference to Gavin Free, a member of Achievement Hunter alongside Geoff Ramsey and Jack Pattillo, who is often unavailable at the office of the show due to filming other projects. Both Ramsey and Pattillo voice a Railway Clerk and the Valentine Hotel Manager respectively.
- In the files there exists text referencing a cut restraining order from Gavin, which would have likely been intended for Nigel.
