Gertrude is a minor character featured in Red Dead Redemption 2.

History

Background

Gertrude is a member of the Braithwaite family who is locked in an outhouse on the outskirts of the Braithwaite Estate and appears to be mentally insane.

When helping Penelope Braithwaite escape from her family, Arthur can take her to Gertrude's outhouse. Penelope will reveal Gertrude is her cousin who has gone mentally ill, her family decided that keeping her in the property would be better than sending her to a sanitarium.

In the epilogue, Gertrude has died from starvation and her corpse is still locked inside the outhouse.

Her backstory is only revealed if the player takes Penelope Braithwaite to the outhouse during the mission The Course of True Love V. Penelope will then have extra dialogue explaining who Gertrude is and why she is locked there.
