Gertrude is a minor character featured in Red Dead Redemption 2.

History

Background

Gertrude is a mentally insane woman belonging to the Braithwaite family. Her family locked her in an outhouse near Braithwaite Manor because of her insanity.

When helping Penelope Braithwaite escape from her family, Arthur can take her to Gertrude's outhouse. Penelope will reveal Gertrude is her cousin who has gone mentally ill, and that her family decided that keeping her in the property would be better than sending her to a sanitarium.

In the epilogue, Gertrude has died from starvation and her corpse is still locked inside the outhouse.

Her backstory is only revealed if the player takes Penelope Braithwaite to the outhouse during the mission The Course of True Love V. Penelope will then have extra dialogue explaining who Gertrude is and why she is locked there.
She is one of the many points of interest that can be found across the map.
