Gertrude Braithwaite is a minor character featured in Red Dead Redemption 2.

History

Background

Gertrude is a member of the Braithwaite family and Catherine Braithwaite's daughter. A mentally insane woman, Gertrude's family decided to lock her in an outhouse near Braithwaite Manor instead of sending her to a sanitarium, preferring to keep her on the property while possibly keeping their reputation tarnished by Gertrude's mental insanity.

Events of Red Dead Redemption 2

When helping Penelope Braithwaite escape from her family, Arthur Morgan can take her to Gertrude's outhouse. Penelope will reveal Gertrude is her cousin who has gone mentally ill, and that her family decided that keeping her in the property would be better than sending her to a sanitarium. A fact that Arthur is disturbed by and Penelope is ashamed of. Penelope states that she'll do what she can from Boston to help Gertrude, to which Arthur highly doubts.

In the epilogue, Gertrude has died from starvation and her corpse is still locked inside the outhouse.

Gertrude is an unhinged individual prone to random fits of maniacal laughter and seems to relish in some morbid thoughts.

Appearance

After being locked in an outhouse for an unknown amount of time and partially exposed to the elements, Gertrude has developed a sickly appearance. Her eyes and cheeks are sunken and her skin is considerably pale. She has light brown hair tied in pig tails.

• Gertrude's insanity could be a result of an incestuous lineage, as the Braithwaites have been known for inbreeding.
