Goats are a species of animal found in Red Dead Redemption and can be hunted to obtain their skin and meat.

Description

Goats are one of the oldest domesticated species. They are used for their milk, meat, hair, and skins over much of the world. In the twentieth century they also gained in popularity as pets. Farmers keep them for easy access to milk and meat, primarily, also for their dung, which was used as fuel and their bones, hair, and sinew for clothing, building, and tools.

Domestic goats were generally kept in herds that wandered on hills or other grazing areas, often tended by goatherds who were frequently children or adolescents, similar to the more widely known shepherd. Goats come in 3 different colors, white, black and brown.

Locations

There are many goats all across Mexico , Critchley's Ranch in New Austin, and Cochinay.

Trivia

  • None of the official trailers release to this date feature goats. However, goats were shown in the Weazel News trailer for Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony as part of "archive footage". Rockstar Games later confirmed the footage with the goats was from (possibly a beta version at the time) Red Dead Redemption.
  • Killing a goat is not required for the Unnatural Selection trophy/achievement.
  • Goats are not undead like other animals in the Undead Nightmare DLC pack. This may be as Goats are often associated with Satanic Ritual, and as such are unaffected by the plague. In Undead Nightmare, they have a darker colour, red eyes, and their horns are much longer. They are known as "Horned" goats.
