Fowler is unlocked as a playable character in Showdown Mode by successfully completing the level "Ghost Town" in under four minutes in Bounty Hunter Mode. He can also be unlocked by purchasing the Dirt Shovel at the start of the mission "Sunset Canyon". His special ability grants him explosive bullets in his Escopeta, while he can also grab and thrown opponents around.
According to Sheriff Bartlett's Journal, Gordon "Digs" Fowler may have earned his nickname either from the way he digs into every bit of food he can find or the way he digs into people's chests with his pickaxe. He is a common thug and is not above killing people.
Events of Red Dead Revolver[]
Red Harlow first fights with Gordon in the mission "Carnival Life" alongside with Fidgits. While Fidgits spawn more than once in the mission, Digs spawns four times. He spawns twice in the first section and then twice after the second cutscene before the fight with Pig Josh. Red has to fight numerous Digs during the level "Ghost Town" as he hunts down Mr. Black. At the end, he needs to duel with three opponents. One of the opponents is "Digs" Fowler, alongside Bandito and Jesse Lynch. He also appears as an opponent twice in the mission "Cemetery", but like the Bandito, he could be attacked by Black himself for being in the way of his Gatling.
Lastly, Gordon appears in the mission "Range War", where he spawns only once with a crew of Bandito, Greg Whitney and Udo Kang. He spawns when Annie Stoakes has saved all of the cattle in the barn and killed all of the outlaws inside it.
Gordon "Digs" Fowler is listed in Sheriff Bartlett's Journal on pages 116 - 117 under the Outlaws in Twelve States section. The pages are unlocked by unlocking his showdown character by either of the methods noted above.
Trivia[]
On the rewards screen for "Ghost Town" in Bounty Hunter Mode as well as on the player selection screen in Showdown Mode, his nickname is singular as "Dig" Fowler. In the title and text of his journal page it is plural as "Digs", which makes sense given Bartlett's description and the fact that both can be used as his nickname.
In a way, Gordon is a prototype of Pick Axe Miller, a miner of Javier Diego's, judging from their strikingly similar appearance and both of the two's involvement with pick-axes.
However, unlike Miller, Gordon doesn't use a pick-axe as a weapon, despite Sheriff Bartlett claiming that he uses one to attack people's chests.
