Grizzly is a minor boss character featured in Red Dead Revolver.
After completion of the level "Bear Mountain" on bounty hunter mode or purchasing the Dreamcatcher, Grizzly becomes available as a playable character in Showdown Mode. He uses a Pacificador and knives as default weapons and his special ability makes him slash with his claws indulged in snake Oil. Like most heavy-built or tall characters, he has the ability to pick up his opponent and throw him/her around.
History[]
Background[]
Grizzly was the leader of the Black Elk tribe, who was stationed at the mines in Bear Mountain by General Diego while Standing Snake was stationed to guard the Hell Pass. For selling out to Diego, he and his tribe were disgraced by the other natives, mainly the Red Wolf Tribe, led by Chief Running Moon. According to Sheriff Bartlett's Journal, the Black Elks bought a lot of Snake Oil from Professor Perry sometime prior to the game, which would explain why both him and Snake use weapons indulged with snake oil.
He had the keys needed to unlock Red Harlow's jail cell while the bounty hunter was trapped in the Bear Mountain mine.
Events of Red Dead Revolver[]
After making his way all the way to the waterfall after killing the soldiers and miners of the Renegade Army, Shadow Wolf is confronted by Grizzly who jumps out of a cave from behind the said waterfall in the mission "Bear Mountain".
He has the unnatural ability of jumping very high on tribe statues or totems and throw knives at the player. If approached too close while he is on the ground, he will attack Wolf with his claws, covered in Snake Oil.
After Wolf kills Grizzly, he will search his body to find keys needed to unlock Red's cell door.

Sheriff Bartlett's Journal[]
He is listed in Sheriff Bartlett's Journal under the Citizens of the Wilderness section. His page can be unlocked when the player either completes "Bear Mountain" on Bounty Hunter Mode or purchases the Dreamcatcher after visiting the Brimstone General Store for the last time before the Battle Royale.
Trivia[]
- It is not known how he emits a bear roar.
- Despite never being heard speaking, only making bear roars, it is safe to assume he has the ability to speak, as he apparently gave Diego's miners orders and made the transaction when the tribe sold out after all. However, it is possible one of his tribesmen did the speaking for him, making it similar to Ran Fa Li's situation in GTA: San Andreas, another game made by RockStar the same year.
- Sheriff Bartlett's journal describes him as being the muscle who would force Javier Diego's miners to work harder and quicker.
- Regardless of where he is killed, the ending cutscene of "Bear Mountain" will always show him laying under the waterfall.
- In the beta prototype version of the game, Grizzly was supposed to be the young protagonist's mentor (who is assumed to be young Red Harlow, even though he bares more resemblance to Jody). Whether he could speak back then or not however, is still not revealed.
- His original model was also supposed to be the model he has for the third player selection in Showdown Mode.
