Honor Among Horse Thieves is the first story mission, after the introduction, in Red Dead Online.
Mission Overview[]
Horley suggested you go see Clay Davies, a horse thief, to learn the ins and outs of the horse-rustling trade.
Story[]
The protagonist has just been broken out of prison and is need of some money to get back on their feet. Horley advised them to see Clay Davies, a horse trader, who mainly sells stolen horses. The protagonist and their posse meet with Clay and his twin brother, Clive, who hire them to steal some horses from a nearby ranch.
At the ranch, the protagonist's posse engages in a shootout with several outlaws who are also attempting to steal the horses. After all the outlaws are killed, each protagonist steals a horse and delivers it to the stables. There, Clay pays them and informs them that Horley left them a message to go see JB Cripps at their new camp once they are done. Before the protagonist leaves, Clay tells them that they can deliver him more horses whenever they want, and he will pay them. He then decides to give the horse that the protagonist stole back to them, as a gift and sign of "future business".
Afterward, the protagonist rides their new horse to the camp, where Cripps tells them that he finished setting up everything they will need for now and that he will live with them from now on. He will also manage and organize the camp in exchange for a small daily fee, claiming that it's still a better way to earn money that begging. Cripps then remembers that Horley left a message for the protagonist to meet him in Blackwater whenever they can. He also informs the protagonist that, during their travels, they may encounter several strange individuals asking for their assistance, adding that it's up to them to decide whether they will accept or not. Cripps ends the conversation by welcoming the protagonist to their new home. Following this, a short cutscene will play, informing the player of the various activities they can do in Red Dead Online.

Trivia[]
- This mission's name references the saying "honor among thieves", which refers to the concept of a criminal never compromising the illegal activities of a fellow criminal. It might also be a reference to the Red Dead Redemption 2 mission, "Honor, Amongst Thieves".
- This mission does not have a set region in which it can take place. The location depends on where the introduction took place, which may differ from player to player.
- This is the only story mission in Red Dead Online, besides the introduction and the two meetings with Horley in Blackwater, that cannot be replayed. As such, it does not have rating parameters.
- Although Clay Davies tells the player that they can deliver him stolen horses for money, this is not actually possible to do; implying that it is a cut feature from the game or was intended to be added later via an update.
