The ringer and 'Marston' throwing some horseshoes onto it.

Horseshoes is a gambling game which can be played in Red Dead Redemption. Towns in which Horseshoes are marked on the map with a horseshoe symbol.

Rules

Horseshoes is an outdoor game played between two people using four horseshoes and two throwing targets (stakes) set in a sandbox area. The players take alternating turns tossing two horseshoes a turn at stakes in the ground, which are traditionally placed 40 feet apart. Bet money and the larger the bet, the harder the opponent will be. The game goes to 11 points and you must win by 2 points. You get one point if one horseshoe lands closer to the stake than both of the opponent’s horseshoes, two points if both of your horseshoes are closer than the opponent's, and three for a ringer.

Instructions

Horseshoes can seem random and frustrating if you do not know how to aim and throw. Here are some simple instructions that should allow you to succeed.

  1. Make sure to aim every throw. Zoom in and make sure the peg is between the two sides of the shoe.
  2. Swing back and forth. How hard you press the stick and when you let go determines the strength of the throw.
  3. Try to let go of the horseshoe in the middle as the release point determines the angle of your throw.

Timing release controls the angle (which can be important) but the swing is even more important. Of course, luck matters most of all.

Don't skip to a turn, the AI does worse when watching them, if skipping, they will more than likely get both in the sand.
