I am the biggest bastard you're ever gonna meet, James Langton. Mess with me and you'll be begging me to kill you.
James Langton

James Langton is a recurring character in the Red Dead series, appearing as a minor character in Red Dead Redemption 2 and a stranger in Red Dead Online.

James Langton is a bounty hunter and the professional rival of Sadie Adler.

Events of Red Dead Online

Langton claims that he "runs" New Austin and offers the player missions that either hinder or assist the law in some manner. This ranges from catching criminals or breaking them out.

Events of Red Dead Redemption 2

Langton and his men set out to capture Shane Finley, but soon learn that Sadie Adler had already captured Finley. Unwilling to give up on the bounty, Langton and his men intercepted Sadie, and forced her to give Finley up near the town of Armadillo.

Sadie contacts John Marston to secure his help in getting Finley back from Langton. The two locate Langton and his men, who have stopped at Pike's Basin to wait for more of their men before heading north, where they intend to hand Finley over to State Paratroopers. John and Sadie then launch an assault on Langton and his men, and Langton is slain by either John or Sadie during the fighting. With Langton gone, the pair take Shane Finley to the police station in Blackwater to collect the bounty for him.

Once there, Sadie tells the Blackwater Police Chief Oswald Dunbar that they killed Langton after he stole Finley from her. She also tells John that, with Langton's death, demand for her services will sharply increase.
