The LeMat Revolver is a revolver featured in Red Dead Redemption. It is one of the five Rare Weapons of the game. You need this weapon to get 100% Completion.

Description

It is a single-action revolver with a high capacity 9-shot cylinder. This weapon's high capacity allows for more shots between reloads and allows the player to gain the upper hand, especially in short, intense firefights. In singleplayer, this weapon is capable of killing an enemy with one shot to the chest or head, and is capable of taking down some predatory animals with one shot as well, such as wolves.

The LeMat Revolver uses Revolver Ammo.

• In Multiplayer Free Roam, the revolver can be found in Fort Mercer. In free-for-all modes the LeMat Revolver can be found in multiple crates.
• The LeMat Revolver is unlocked upon reaching Rank 46.

Real-life model

• The LeMat has a 16-20 gauge shotgun barrel beneath the main barrel [1], but it is unusable in Red Dead Redemption.
• The LeMat revolvers were used in the American Civil War from 1861–1865.
• LeMat’s revolver was used by such famous Confederate officers as Major Generals Braxton Bragg, J.E.B. Stuart, and Richard H. Anderson.
• Inman, the main character in the novel Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier, carries and uses a LeMat.
• The LeMat was chambered for a .42 or .36 caliber round, making it less powerful in real life than the other revolvers in game. The in-game LeMat may be a model chambered in .44, which was not supplied during the Civil War in large numbers due to the Union blockade. This theory is not entirely unlikely, as the game takes place in 1911.
• Captain Espinoza uses a LeMat as his sidearm in "Empty Promises" and sometimes in "Cowards Die Many Times".
• The LeMat is the most powerful revolver in game.
• Real life LeMat revolvers were extremely cumbersome and time consuming to reload (since like most other Civil War era revolvers, it didn't use cartrige based ammunition) so much so that Confederate cavalry men who used them would typically carry several such revolvers and switch between loaded weapon rather than taking the time to reload.
• Very few of these weapons were ever produced compared to other revolvers and less than 3,000 actually made it to the CSA through the Union blockades during the Civil War.
• In reality, the LeMat uses primer caps seated one at a time via a loading gate on the side of the frame, while the smoothbore barrel was loaded by opening a hidden gate in front of the hammer. The gun was also equipped with a pivoting firing pin used to select either the top or bottom barrels.
