The book was decently written but we at Scruffers and Co. do not believe a book about a woman's love affairs during the Civil War could ever be popular with contemporary readers. You seem like a talented writer. Perhaps you should try a different subject matter.
A comedy of manners set in Newport, or the suffering of stonemasons in the West of England are the sort of subject matters you should think about. We also love the theme of mistake identity and note with sadness that it was entirely missing from your tale. We wish you every success with your future career.
