The Limping Williams Distilling Company, or simply known as Limping Williams, is a whiskey manufacture company mentioned in Red Dead Redemption and later in Red Dead Redemption 2.

History[]

Background[]

Little is known about the founder of the Limping Williams Distilling Company. However, the company’s sour mash whiskey is well-known across the United States and is the most commonly sold whiskey in the main territories featured in both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Redemption.

Events of Red Dead Redemption[]

Limping Williams' whiskey isn’t available for purchase at any of the saloons across the map. However, various advertising posters and signs for the brand can be found in settlements throughout the game.

Trivia[]

  • The company may be an amalgamation of several real-world brands, like Jack Daniel's and Johnnie Walker. However, the name is a clear nod to the real-life Evan Williams whiskey.
    • The bottle’s design in Red Dead Redemption 2 resembles Johnnie Walker’s iconic logo.
      • There’s a minor discrepancy in the company’s name between Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2. In the original game, the name appears as Limping Williams’, with the apostrophe after the 's,' while in Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s written as Limping William’s, suggesting that the name might actually be 'Limping William.' This is likely an oversight by the developers.
  • In Red Dead Redemption 2, the bottle label indicates that the brand is manufactured in 'New Bordeaux, USA,' which was the pre-release name for Saint Denis.
  • In Red Dead Redemption, there is a wagon belonging to the company in front of the Blackwater Saloon.
  • During the story mission "The Gunslinger's Tragedy", John Marston has to shoot Landon Ricketts' practice targets to pass the Dead Eye training segment — the three targets are Limping Williams bottles.
  • NPCs drinking in front of saloons are often seen with bottles of Limping Williams whiskey.
