Link Huston

Link Huston is a minor character and a bounty target featured in Red Dead Redemption.

History[]

Background[]

Link is wanted for petty theft and can be captured or killed depending on the player's choice. He is a vocal member of Walton's Gang.

Events in Red Dead Redemption[]

Link can most often be found around Armadillo, loitering inside the saloon. He may also walk outside the saloon to smoke on the porch or drink from a bottle with Woody Swenson. He can also be encountered at the Twin Rocks gang hideout, but he will be hostile. He can be seen emerging from the main building with Rufus Higbee after the other enemies outside are killed, warning Marston that the hostage girl belongs to Walton's Gang and that it was a mistake to try to rescue her.

Trivia[]

  • His character model is available in the Outfitter under the name Mescalero Mike.
  • After being captured, Link often makes many sexually suggestive comments in an attempt to barter for his freedom.
  • Link Huston sleeps behind the Blacksmith's in Armadillo at night, along with Woody Swenson.
  • Link is missing his front teeth. Whether this is accidental, an injury or because of poor mouth hygiene is unknown.
  • When Link is drunk he can be heard saying, "Ghost riders in the sky! I've seen 'em mama! they're so pretty!" This is a reference to the 1948 country song "(Ghost) Riders In The Sky: A Cowboy Legend" by Stan Jones.
  • During the Twin Rocks hideout in Free Roam, Link may sometimes be found behind an overturned table.
  • Unlike most of the Walton's gang members, Link is a very accurate sniper even when drunk and often kills the players with a single shot.
  • Judging by some of his quotes, it appears that Link may have been physically abused by his mother at one point during his childhood.
  • Link, along with Alfie Scruggs, does not appear in the Venter's Place and Critchley's Ranch multiplayer gang hideouts.
  • He is one of the larger, well-built members of the gang, along with Rufus Higbee and Walton Lowe himself, making him easily recognizable.
  • Oddly, Link is a part of Williamson gang in the short, pre-game release movie Red Dead Redemption: The Man from Blackwater.
  • Interestingly, Walton's gang artwork depicts Link (and Walton) wielding a cane. He is never seen holding it in the game.
