Mark Johnson is a minor character featured in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Background

Years ago, Mark Johnson was a train and stagecoach robber, who was wanted across the American West. He chose to put his past behind him to raise his family, and disappeared for years while he and his wife raised their son. Despite this, the government is still after him, and he has been labeled "at large".

Events of Red Dead Redemption 2

When in Rhodes, the player can pick up a bounty on Johnson. After riding to Siltwater Strand, the player will find Johnson teaching his son to ride a horse. He will confront Johnson, who will ask to speak to his son. If the player complies, Johnson will thank him before quietly talking to his son. If the player lets Johnson talk to his son, Johnson will wriggle his way off the horse, and soon after, his friends will ride in demanding the player let him go. Return Johnson to the Rhodes Jail for twenty-five dollars. If you visit the gallows hill behind sheriff's office couple of days later you can attend Johnson's execution and either watch him being hanged or save him by shooting the rope and killing the lawmen which is a direct reference to Sergio Leone's "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" spaghetti-western famous scene. Johnson will then tell the player that he doesn't understand his actions but forgives him and runs away. This is the only known way of saving Mark Johnson.
