Martha's Swain is a homestead in Red Dead Redemption 2 in the Grizzlies East region of the Ambarino territory.
It lies to the southeast of O'Creagh's Run.
Background
Inside the cabin, the player can find a letter written to Martha from a man named Garfield, dated 1864.
Garfield appears to be a Southern soldier fighting on behalf of the Confederacy, while Martha is a Northern woman with whom he was in love. In the letter, Garfield discusses thoughts of deserting the army, an upcoming uphill battle against the Yankees and fears of dying.
It remains unclear how Martha died, or why the corpse of her was left to rot in the cabin. If the player chooses to venture to the hills upon which the battle mentioned in the letters took place, Bolger Glade, they can find Garfield's corpse; his skeletal remains are pined into a tree, wearing a sign that brands him as a traitor. A letter from Martha can be found on his corpse.
Notes
- A cabin can be found here; on the bedroom's nightstand is a Pocket Mirror.
- In a tree stump west of the shack is embedded a Rusted Hunter Hatchet.
- The word swain in the name is used in poetry for a male sweetheart, which makes sense given Martha's 'swain' was Garfield, from their letters and reflects their sad story.
