–Mateo Clisante

Mateo Clisante is a minor character and a bounty target featured in Red Dead Redemption.

Background

Mateo Clisante is wanted for assault and can be captured or killed depending on the player's choice.

Interactions

Mateo plays a small role in the mission "The Gunslinger's Tragedy", during which he, along with Geraldo Elisaldez and an unnamed bandito, harass John Marston when he first enters Chuparosa. While the unnamed bandito pesters Marston to give up his boots and money, Clisante sneaks up behind Marston and steals his hat. The trio then laugh, but Marston draws his weapon and kills all but Clisante. Clisante begins to beg for his life, but Marston shoots him in the stomach and takes his hat back, dusting it off while Clisante bleeds to death.

However, despite being killed in "The Gunslinger's Tragedy", Mateo can be found in Casa Madrugada, frequently loitering in and around the cantina. He is encountered during the Tesoro Azul and Fort Mercer gang hideouts, but he will be hostile unless the player is wearing the Bandito Outfit.

Trivia

  • In Undead Nightmare, there exists a Bruiser which looks exactly like him.
  • He appears to share a character head with Victor Mansilla, the only difference being a scruffier haircut instead of Victor who has dreadlocks.
  • When captured, Mateo may sometimes refer to himself in the third person.
  • Mateo's character model was going to be available in the Outfitter, but was scrapped before the release.
  • When looked at his Outfitter character, it shows that Mateo was much fatter and he wore a different Bandolier compared to his current one.
