Because trivia is not meant to be speculation, comparisons or stating the obvious. It's miscellaneous information that has no place on the rest of the page, hence why his trivia points were removed. If people want this information around, I'm sure TV Tropes would be fine with it.
Hi Raziel! My name is Shrev, and I’m the Fandom Wiki Manager for Red Dead Wiki. I am here to help the community and be a liaison to full-time Fandom staff. If you ever have a question or issue relating to the wiki, editing, styling, infoboxes, templates, etc., please feel free to contact me on my wall, or on Discord at Shrev64#0089.
Hey not too familiar with the page or even how discord works but since RDR2 doesn't seem to have any single player dlc on the horizon I've started making a few of my own missions. Was wondering if you guys would be interested in creating a thread to create and share made up missions such as these
So basically fanfiction? If you want to share those, the best place for it would be in the discussions. Discussions can be accessed by clicking on the "Discuss" icon on the right, and things like this are highly encouraged there.
I love this wiki. It's the reason why I'm into the Red Dead lore. However, if there is one criticism I can give, it's the false information that this wiki has spread since its creation. While I would say most information on the lore here is accurate, there were some fallacies that unfortunately got ingrained in many people's minds such as:
-That John's scars came from a bear.
-That the robbery John got shot and left behind on was specifically a bank robbery.
-That Landon Ricketts was a lawman in Blackwater.
-That The Marston Daughter died of cholera.
-That The Marston Daughter was a kid/baby when she died. (RDR2 somewhat confirms this, but this wiki stated or implied it way before that game released.)
-That John joined the gang when he was 17.
-That John was 5'10.
-That John was blind in one eye.
And more recently, the Blackwater Massacre's death toll. Although I'm not gonna confirm or deny, the body count for the massacre (22 outlaws and 15 lawmen) was most likely a hoax. The more I investigate it, the more I believe that it was made up. And yet, potentially incorrect information stayed on that page for years!
A little while ago there was a minor kerfuffle on the Dutch page, people couldn't decide whether or not Dutch was born in 1858 or 1855. It wasn't until one of the users used the GOTY guide for RDR1 as a source for Dutch's age. In my opinion, we should do more of that, citing sources. It could clean out incorrect information and make this wiki more authentic. Just a suggestion.
I definitely agree with you on more sourcing. Whenever wrong or unconfirmed information is noted, I either remove it in the former's case, or flag it as needing citation in the latter case for temporary time before removal.
It's an issue that has been bugging me for a long while, but unfortunately, we lack both manpower and time to take care of it properly, so it happens slowly. In-game dialogues, newspapers, interviews with developers and guidebooks are always our primary source and should be used on the Wiki; however, most editors either flat out ignore that and write down their own speculations and suggestions.
For time being, if you ever see more wrong information, either remove it or discuss this with a staff member. In case of what you may consider plausible, yet unconfirmed information, use the citation needed template near it and take the discussion to the page's talk page; if nobody will reply or take note after a week or so, feel free to remove it.
Thank you for your concern about questionable additions to pages, I greatly appreciate it, and I hope that we will manage to remove every bit of untrue content across the Wiki.
The user Farlow Harlow, like me, just joined the wiki, and edited it heavily. Whereeas my edits were done in good faith, he is clearly manipulating the achievement system. He edited the Gallery of Jacques Markus 4 times, yet there is still one photo there. He has done other things like this. This is definitley not a ploy to "drag someone else down with me" or something like that. I really do want to make the wiki a better place. My intentions were good, but my actions were stupid.
Anyways, the only real issue I have noticed with him so far is writing in Spanish on another page, and if I see repeated behavior, this will not continue.
On a side note, I ask you to cease sending repeated messages to all Staff members, who found it to be irritating or exhausting. If you have something urgent to ask or report to us, feel free to do so, but at the same time, tone it down a little.
I had attempted to add this contribution to the John Marston page under the galler, but couldn't. I feared it was a reprimandation of my earlier actions, so I went to that page which I still had and another tab and tried there. I was relieved when Johns scared face popped up lol.
